Stay Away Joe is a funny film; Elvis is excellent as wild Navajo indian Joe Lightcloud.
Joe is home with a herd of cattle and a government scheme that will finally see him make some big money.
Supported by Katie Jurado and Burgess Meredith, (Mickey from the Rocky films) Stay Away Joe is a wild ride of parties, boozing, women and hustling.
Most of the film is very funny, a few songs are thrown in; but the basic story is about Joe, his wild ways and the problems he encounters when the prize bull is barbecued during a party.
The problem is, that they are government bulls and he has no money to buy a new bull.
It's hillarious when he continually has to sell parts of his brand new red cadillac, eventually with no roof, doors or seats; he is driving the car whilsts sitting on a rocking chair.
This film is under-rated and is definately one of his best; it was filmed in the Arizona desert with great scenery, Elvis looking great and obviously having a great time.....you will too!

This is one film that has been very elusive most of his films he played the same character always singing pop songs.
This one was a great fun film only 2 songs and Elvis looking as if he is enjoying himself for a change, he had a very good cast with him 3 well known stars of their day they also seemed to enjoy themselves.
The scenes with Joan Blondell I thought were very funny.
I am very grateful to Amazon for having this film I have been trying for years I was beginning to think I would never find it now I have it thank you I have been a fan of Elvis since he bounded onto to the scene 54years ago.

This is Elvis' craziest film with a very loose and loony plot about Joe the bull-riding cattleman, and his loopy family and friends. And about a bull (I kid not).
I found it a little hard to follow what's going on in between all the wrestling, fighting, and wild partying. And so will you but it doesn't matter. You will get a kick out of all the hilarity, the slapstick, and the ongoing 'horsing' around between Joe (Elvis) and his crazy friends (even a few of Elvis' real-life friends have parts in this film.)
Oddly, there's just a few songs featured in this 1968 movie. Though they make fairly pleasant listening, they are written for the movie strictly, and apart from the title track none are much to write home about.
Another thing that will not escape you is how fantastically good and slender Elvis looks. If there ever was an example of human perfection, you will find it here. Elvis really never looked better. His Cherokee blood from his mother's ancestry is also glaringly evident in this movie.
Apart from the original theatrical trailer, there is no bonus material included in this dvd. Still, an all round pleasant and quite funny Western with beautiful Grand Canyon scenery. Just lose your inhibitions (and your mind) for ninety minutes.
I recommend it.
