Product Description

Product Description

Why was Elton John's reworking of "Candle in the Wind" for Princess Diana a terrible, terrible mistake? Which rock star would regularly leave what unspeakable gift inside hotel room hairdryers? And did Omar Sharif and Ian Dury ever comes to blows and have to be separated by a Blockhead? Yes. With a cry of "Leave it Omar, he's a raspberry." Rock and roll and rumour go together like Peaches and Geldof. This book that you're holding contains more filth, more fury and more potentially libelous stories that may yet see the author in prison, than have ever been written down in book form before. Gathered here under the cover is a brand new collection of myths, legends, and apocryphal tales of pop and rock that have come straight from the mouths of those that were there, those that shouldn't have been there and those that were there but left early and only heard about it afterwards. Crafted with the all the loving detail that you'd expect from a man who holds the UK record for the largest ever broadcasting fine for breaching taste and decency rules, "Status Quo and The Kangaroo" opens up a Pandora's musical box of bad behaviour and jumps head first into the mess.

About the Author

Jon Holmes is what his agent describes as a multi-award winning writer, broadcaster and comedian. He co-created the hit comedy Dead Ringers, is the short one on both Radio 4's The Now Show and Radio 2's The Day The Music Died, and is a regular collaborator of Alan Partridge and The Thick of It creator Armando Iannucci. He's also co-written Stephen Fry's script for the BAFTA awards, hosted the MOJO Awards and proudly holds the record for the largest ever fine for taste and decency offences in British Broadcasting history. It all happened after an on-air game of 'Swearing Radio Hangman For the Under 12s'. Google it, why don't you? www.jonholmes.net

I saw Jon Holmes on the Tv talking about this and just had to buy it. Absolutely jaw-droppingly funny! The footnotes are just genius. God knows how he's got away with writing it but I'm glad he did! It's certainly eye opening! (And eye watering in places!) Buy it. Book of the year!

This is a really funny book that is full of some incredible rumours about pop stars and their "Spinal Tap" style moments of madness. It's also possibly the only music book to contain chapters on both Bob Dylan and Girls Aloud!

You'll end up wanting to read it out to your friends in the pub. And, the possibly true story that involves a member of The Who, some testicles and a cat caused this reader to laugh out loud on a train, making me seem rather silly!

Brilliant! 11 Jun 2007
Format:Hardcover
Absolutely hilarious! I am ordering this in bulk, it's perfect to give to all my friends for their birthdays this year. Reminds me a bit of Terry Pratchett with all the footnotes, and it's just as funny.
