From the Back Cover

You too can understand the statistics of life, even if you′re math–challenged!

What do you need to calculate? Manufacturing output? A curve for test scores? Sports stats? You and Excel can do it, and this non–intimidating guide shows you how. It demystifies the different types of statistics, how Excel functions and formulas work, the meaning of means and medians, how to interpret your figures, and more — in plain English.

  • Excel tricks — find out what′s built into the program to help you work with Excel formulas

  • Playing with worksheets — get acquainted with the worksheet functions for each step

  • Graphic displays — present your data as pie graphs, bar graphs, line graphs, or scatter plots

After buying this book, i tried very hard to read and follow it through, but i have to say that it is very difficult, it spends longer than it should be for the most obviously steps, and the parts where you expects a bit more words, it simply jump away, and presentation is dull.
Do not have time here to go through all the pain again, put it in simple words, if you expect to learn excel efficiently, then look for something else, this is not the book for you to learn.

Good Reference Guide 10 April 2011

I found this book to be extremely helpful explaining exactly what each of the statistical functions in Excel actually do. Examples are provided showing application. Personally, I found the 2 chapters on probability to be helpful. The author does say that this this NOT a statistics text, and suggests reading "Statistics for Dummies" to brush up if needed. Also, you would need to be familiar with Excel to fully benefit from this text. I find myself coming back to this text as needed as I work with Excel's statistical functions for my job.

it is useful, but bear in mind the authors exposes things in a very alternative manner, therefore it is often difficult to find a clear and quick explanation/definition to exactly what you are looking for, or find things in the index

i have used it to clarify concepts once i've studied them elsewhere- by giving you a different perspective it helps to really capture the concept
