I originaly discovered Katie Fforde after buying Highland Fling and reading it in one go. I couldn't wait to read more. Katie Fford writes characters that are both lovable and belivable, they suffer their trials and tribulations just like everyone else. Her heroines are normal they have lumps and bumps and aren't all under the age of 30.Her hero's are human and come with baggage in this case a stately home and a dodgey car.I hope that if she ever sells a novel to Hollywood they won't destroy it like they did with The Beach and Animal Attraction. Stately Pursuits is a wonderfull feel good novel and I heartly recomended it to anyone that like a bit of old fashioned romance with plenty of humour

This mirrors her other books both in the predictability of the plot and the characters, however, the story trips along and you can not help getting embroiled in the yarn. Very 'pretty' settings and a good selection of people to irritate the reader. I love them all and hate myself for doing so! Good bathtime reading!

This is one of the first three of Fforde's books I have read and my favorite by far.

I felt that the story was in the realm of possibility - the hero wasn't Prince Charming, but yet you still wanted he and our heroine to get together in the end.

A fun, light read, definitely recommended!

Stately Pursuits was my introduction to Katie Fforde - I've since gone on to read all by "Wild Designs". Yes, this book does follow her forumula for writing, but each of her stories has its own charm. I can't help but feel great affection for Hetty and Conner when all is said and done. It's not a "serious" book, but as far as light reading goes, it's one of the best.

As always a brilliant read. I have never read a poor Katie Fforde book, I love them all! Brilliant romantic full of detail, suspense and always a happy ending.

This is a romance with a rural setting-the country house it is set in is no Downton Abbey but it almost becomes a character itself. The heroine is a resourceful younger woman and the male love interest is difficult but sympathetic. Katie Fforde often includes a sub-plot involving saving something- in this case this neglected manor house. There are one or two anachronisms in it (eg older people hardly ever spend months in hospital after simple operations these days unless they have a grim prognosis) - it could have been set any time in the 30 years before it was published, but this makes it somehow endearing. Honesty and hard work triumph in a world where friendships and kindness abound. A relaxing read - all that planning and hard work made me sleepy at times. Charming and distracting.

Picked this out of my bookshelf for a second read and well worth it. Love the two main characters, even if the others felt a little 2 dimensional and flat. Good storyline with lots of meat on it. The only real problem I had was when the hero is first introduced and is described as "wide" and "filling the doorway". I'm sure Fforde meant this is the nicest possible way but the image which came to mind (and then refused to budge) was that he was obese, and I really don't want fat heroes. Recommended for light comedic entertainment
