5.0 out of 5 stars As close to perfection as I've heard in a long time, 2 Jul 2007
Stateless are one of the most exciting young bands of 2007. Meshing guitars with electronics, orchestral strings with turntable beats, this sonically ambitious five-piece already have a depth and a power far beyond their years. They come from Leeds, an increasingly hip breeding ground for fresh rock talent in the north of England. But their songs transcend scenes, genres and international borders. Newly signed to the Berlin label !K7, their self-titled debut album already sounds like one of the musical highlights of the year.
just listen to the intensity of "Crash" and be.. swept away.

5.0 out of 5 stars Badly Needed Album, 19 Oct 2007
This is a great album. If you are into Radiohead, Portishead, Bjork or Sigur Ros I think you will quite enjoy this album.

I am quite critical and I can honestly say I don't believe there is a poor track on this album. Some of them were on the Bloodstream EP but that is a minor grumble.

My personal favourite tracks are 'Exit' very electronic meets rock with Bjork having an influence. There is no point in saying amazing vocals as that applies to ALL tracks! 'Bloodstream' is a gentle, slumbering piano driven track which is just an incredibly beautifully written song with hints of Portishead. I hate comparing bands to other bands but sometimes it makes it easier to explain what the music sounds like. This is an intelligent love song without being completely gushy! 'Crash' is a bit Coldplayish only much, much better! It starts off slowly and builds up to a great mix of background electronics drven along by drums with the aforementioned great vocals. 'Bluetrace' is probably best track on album. Again Portishead meets Sneaker Pimps = AMAZING TRACK!! It ends in a manic blast with squealing trumpets and distorted vocals! Then falling to a quiet siren like drone leading into the start of the beautiful 'Inscape' which displays Chris James' vocal talents to fullest.

Overall, this album is not mainstream fodder but more aimed at people who love listening to music not just bop about to the latest in-song! At this moment in time this is badly needed in what is a rather samey mainstream. Hopefully there will be more to come from Stateless.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just Perfect, 19 Jul 2007
By Mr. S. J. Hamon - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I found Stateless via DJ SHADOW'S myspace page. On his page he had the song "This Language" as his profile song under which was written "the closest thing to perfect i have heard in a long time". This sort of acknoledgement is entirely justified and i think it is probably true to say this album is the best thing i've listened too since Endtroducing from Shadow. The style of Chris James vocals places him along side other big names like that of Chris from Cold Play or Thom from Radiohead however, Stateless choose to walk a path far less commercial then cold play and a little more upbeat then Radio head. A mixture of tender vocals and atmospheric beats gives rise to a really quite exciting musical experience. Cannot reccomend them highly enough.
