an atlas of arrogance 10 Feb 2012
By lucas
Format:Paperback
The arrogance of this Atlas makes no sense in the modern world.
One issue of utmost importance, for example, is freedom of press.
The author is not serious when he says that UK is amongst the "blue" countries where
the government does not interfere with the press.

I guess that many people read about the photographer who was arrested because he
was taking picture of churches...Court cases in many civilised countries are televised or, at least,
allow photographers. Well, photographers were not allowed to take pictures of an inquiry on
Iraq war. Newspapers had to print drawings of the inquiry, as if we were in the 19 th century...

Then there is the government measure here that prohibits newspapers to publish that they were prohibited
of publishing a story...

I guess that arrogance is the only reason to include the UK as one of the countries where freedom of press is at its highest.
The arrogance of thinking that everything about the UK is of "first world quality".

When the author gives such a misleading information about freedom of press it is difficult to
believe that his "first world" arrogance won't apply to other issues so the place for this book , up to me, is
in the recycling bin.
