I have been a fan of the Net Force series for some time now and then I read Changing Of The Guard. The book introduced a series of new characters which replaced 'the old guard'and it failed. They were however, new characters so had to give it a chance, however the next installment 'State Of War'was worse. The new characters just do not gel. Bring back General Howard, Michaels and Toni or just put Net Force to rest, the story lines were built around their particular skills and now it has all been lost.

I was given this book for Christmas and it looked good. Having read the book over the last few days, I can confirm that the storyline is fast paced, intriguing and inventive.

I especially enjoyed the concept of how technology may develop in the future, and found myself wondering whether we would actually see some of these things come to light.

However, as good as the book was, it failed (in my opinion) to tie up some key plot elements that were hinted at in the blurb. Whilst this obviously is does not adversely affect the storyline itself, I can't help but feel as if the book was missing a chapter to cover the loose ends.

All in all, this book makes an interesting read and is recommended as much for the ideas the author presents about technology as for the story itself.

Tom Clancy's Net Force: State of War is one of the best novels I have ever read. No joke.
The storyline is intrigueing and exciting, and the way that you can see the story from the eyes of the criminals and from the eyes of the authorities makes the book all the more interesting to read. I found that my favourite parts were those concerning Junior, the hitman of a multi-millionaire lawyer, and the way he gets an addiction for killing which is eventually his downfall. Another extremely interesting aspect of the book was the detail in which the author describes each individual's fighting style and weapons of choice.
I must say that the only downside to this book is that Junior, the best character, dies at the end. Though most people will agree that he deserved it.
State of War, all in all, is one of the best pieces of modern literature and is a must-have for crime-novel fans, law-novel fans and future-novel fans.
