By Amanda TOP 500 REVIEWER VINE™ VOICE
Format:Audio CD
When Dannii Minogue adopted the 80's electro style and succeeded with NEON NIGHTS, the style was then considered to be the next big thing so everyone else immediately did the same thing with different levels of success. Holly Valance was one of the unfortunate bandwagon casualties.

Lead (and only) single State Of Mind is clearly the strongest track on here. Ricochets, which is the odd track out on the album - it's more of a ballad - is an excellent track and London should have considered releasing it. Desire is another stand out track for me, although it is a slightly weaker version of State Of Mind. Hypnotic, Curious, Action, Somebody Out There and Over `N' Out are all also worth a listen.

The other tracks all overproduced and as a result once you've heard one you've heard them all. Still, when the music is this enjoyable who cares?

STATE OF MIND didn't deserve to flop the way it did; in fact I've found it to be better then a lot of similar albums (I'm looking at you, Kylie). Unoriginal and overproduced it may be, but none of the tracks are below average.

Electric! 23 Oct 2003
Format:Audio CD
To me Holly was just another in a long line of plastic pop princesses. So I wasnt exactly overjoyed to be reviewing her new album.
But State Of Mind, the album blew me away.

Hypnotic.
Sets the album up nicely with a cool 80's electro vibe and sexy vocals.

State Of Mind.
Great choice for first single and one of the stand out tracks here.

Everything I Hate.
Love the synth bass and love the fresh sounding sing-a-long chorus even more!

Desire.
Its electric, its rock, and it gets better as the song heads for climax.

Curious.
This is the song Kylie should have released instead of that dire Slow. The synth is dirty, the beats are meaty.

Ricochets.
Apart from the retro soul beat this is the only non electro rock song on the album. Its a pleasant enough mid paced ballad and balances the album nicely.

Roll Over.
Best beat on the album - its very 80s in an Inxs kinda way.

Tongue-Tied.
The albums weakest song.

Over N Out
Its fun, poppy, a tad cheesy - it rocks!

Somebody Out There
Once the chorus kicks in I like it, its ok, but i wouldnt miss it if my cd got scratched up.

Action.
Yay! I cant begin to explain the greatness of this killer track.

Double Take
This is one of those last-songs-on-an-album that doesnt sound like the albums finished. It made me want more.
