Electric!, 23 Oct 2003
To me Holly was just another in a long line of plastic pop princesses. So I wasnt exactly overjoyed to be reviewing her new album. But State Of Mind, the album blew me away.Hypnotic. Sets the album up nicely with a cool 80's electro vibe and sexy vocals. State Of Mind. Great choice for first single and one of the stand out tracks here. Everything I Hate. Love the synth bass and love the fresh sounding sing-a-long chorus even more! Desire. Its electric, its rock, and it gets better as the song heads for climax. Curious. This is the song Kylie should have released instead of that dire Slow. The synth is dirty, the beats are meaty. Ricochets. Apart from the retro soul beat this is the only non electro rock song on the album. Its a pleasant enough mid paced ballad and balances the album nicely. Roll Over. Best beat on the album - its very 80s in an Inxs kinda way. Tongue-Tied. The albums weakest song. Over N Out Its fun, poppy, a tad cheesy - it rocks! Somebody Out There Once the chorus kicks in I like it, its ok, but i wouldnt miss it if my cd got scratched up. Action. Yay! I cant begin to explain the greatness of this killer track. Double Take This is one of those last-songs-on-an-album that doesnt sound like the albums finished. It made me want more.
