The story isn't all about the sex scenes... which is more than can be said for some lesbian fiction ... but the pages of intimacy you are given are written with passion and beauty.
Its great to have a story that isn't just about the romance of two predictable characters who meet, try to stay away from each other despite a physical attraction and then end up falling in love after heated nights and days. Instead, these characters have lives and you are drawn into them to share their laughter and pain.
Oh and a number of heartstrings pulled ..... PERFECT! :)
A definate must read for all ... this read ... had to go order myself another Georgia Beers book!
This is one of my favourites of Georgia Beers' books. I related to the characters and saw a lot of my own friends and family reflected in the story which made it seem very realistic.
I enjoyed seeing the characters' relationship develop and felt like I knew them well by the end. I couldn't put it down. There was an element of sadness about the book at one point but it wasn't dragged out and was relevant. It also reflects the unfortunate truth that loved ones do pass away. It was very well written.
If you're looking for an afternoon to disappear in to a fun and romantic story - this is the perfect book.
This is a definite feel-good book. Well worth a read!
With Starting From Scratch Georgia is getting better and better - I can't wait for her next book!
For anyone who's run out of Georgia Beer titles and are impatient(!), you might like K.E.Lane's "And Playing The Role Of Herself..." and also the J.M.Redmann Micky Knight series. All have sharply observed characters, with humour, pathos and thumping good storylines, quite different from the gentle Starting From Scratch but very worthwhile.
Meanwhile, guess I'll just have to start at Page 1 again...and (keeping my waistline in mind) try to decide for the umpteenth time whether or not I'm glad Georgia didn't include her recipes in the book!
I only comment on the books I think are worthwhile.
Reading Starting from Scratch was a delight : good writing, specially the dialogue, humour, believable characters, good story-line etc.
I don't like cooking or baking but I read I all. Let this be THE recommendation to buy the book.
