Well .... having read plenty of books in my time this is up there with my top 3 lesbian romantic fiction novels. Despite the constant references to cookies and muffins I resisted the urge to gorge myself on food and instead steadily read this beautifully written novel finding myself unwilling to rush it and instead took my time enjoying every morsel dished up by Georgia Beers.

The story isn't all about the sex scenes... which is more than can be said for some lesbian fiction ... but the pages of intimacy you are given are written with passion and beauty.

Its great to have a story that isn't just about the romance of two predictable characters who meet, try to stay away from each other despite a physical attraction and then end up falling in love after heated nights and days. Instead, these characters have lives and you are drawn into them to share their laughter and pain.

Absolutely superb!!!

Oh and a number of heartstrings pulled ..... PERFECT! :)

This is the first time I've read a book by Georgia Beers. I found it hard to put it down. It was a rollercoaster of a ride for both reader and character.

A definate must read for all ... this read ... had to go order myself another Georgia Beers book!

this book is okay...unfortunately it doesn't get much better than that. The plot is heartfelt but predictable and the writing is quite simplistic. I wouldn't read this book if you want to find the sort of book you want to read over and over. The constant referencing to baking will make you want to either bake yourself or stuff your face with cookies, muffins brownies, you name it

This story was lovely, one of those books where you see images of yourself, shying away from being hurt and yet finding it difficult to stay away from that attractice woman. This book had tears rolling down my face by the end. The tears came because of the undertones of the story. A really good read and lovely to find another good gay book.

As all of the Georgia Beers I thoroughly enjoyed the book. The characters are well crafted, the story line is believable and the conversation between the characters feels natural. Beers certainly knows how to string a sentence together - the book is well written, always entertaining and even funny at parts.

Another easy and fun read by Georgia Beers. I love her books and always find myself disappearing into the story she produces - which is annoying because I usually read them within a day or two whilst commuting to work!!! They are too easy to read and I wish they weren't quite so addictive!

This is one of my favourites of Georgia Beers' books. I related to the characters and saw a lot of my own friends and family reflected in the story which made it seem very realistic.

I enjoyed seeing the characters' relationship develop and felt like I knew them well by the end. I couldn't put it down. There was an element of sadness about the book at one point but it wasn't dragged out and was relevant. It also reflects the unfortunate truth that loved ones do pass away. It was very well written.

If you're looking for an afternoon to disappear in to a fun and romantic story - this is the perfect book.

This is a definite feel-good book. Well worth a read!

I absolutely loved this story. It is funny, heartwarming, well observed and written in a wonderful, easy-going style that entices you in until you are completely hooked. It's one of those can't-put-it-down books, to savour (along with the baking!) and return to just for the pleasure of re-reading.
With Starting From Scratch Georgia is getting better and better - I can't wait for her next book!
For anyone who's run out of Georgia Beer titles and are impatient(!), you might like K.E.Lane's "And Playing The Role Of Herself..." and also the J.M.Redmann Micky Knight series. All have sharply observed characters, with humour, pathos and thumping good storylines, quite different from the gentle Starting From Scratch but very worthwhile.
Meanwhile, guess I'll just have to start at Page 1 again...and (keeping my waistline in mind) try to decide for the umpteenth time whether or not I'm glad Georgia didn't include her recipes in the book!

A problem in me giving a comment can / will be the writing - I'm Flemish.

I only comment on the books I think are worthwhile.

Reading Starting from Scratch was a delight : good writing, specially the dialogue, humour, believable characters, good story-line etc.

I don't like cooking or baking but I read I all. Let this be THE recommendation to buy the book.
