Redundancy and Self-Confidence - how to deal with life-changing events and stay positive.

Most of us suffer from lack of self-confidence at some point in our lives. Facing being made redundant is one of those times when many aspects of life we take for granted suddenly seem to be slipping away from us.

Combining personal experience of redundancy with information on how to deal with some of the practical issues plus confidence-building exercises and ideas, Chris Elliott has created a handy guide through the sometimes overwhelming lead up to and aftermath of redundancy.

More About the Author

Having spent 32 years in IT Development, in 2010, Chris Elliott began training as a Life Coach alongside his wife, Dawn James. They now work together in their coaching practice, Rainbow Dreams, offering coaching on a range of personal issues such as self-esteem and self-confidence, body image, relationships, quitting smoking, career change and redundancy. They live in a small market town in West Yorkshire and can often be seen walking in the hills above the town or fundraising for a sanctuary in Romania for rescued bears.

Chris is currently writing a follow-up to Starting From The End, as well as a book on obscure musicians who deserve to be more popular and an illustrated children's book. He has always wanted to write a crime novel and hopes to get around to it one day soon.

I would recommend this book to anyone looking for work or experiencing a career change (or even just thinking of it).

With small, easy to read chapters and conversational tone this book is packed with handy hints and valuable advice.

I'll be keeping this book on file.

5.0 out of 5 stars sensible encouragement 12 Jan 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This is a great little book aimed at anyone looking to change direction in life, whether by choice or not. Chris Elliott has an easy style of writing; his words come over as friendly common sense pointers & thankfully, no hint of patronising the reader. He is quick to emphasise that if you lose your job it's not your fault so don't beat yourself up about it but move positively forward. I like the way he explains how to appear confident even when you're not & how acting in a confident manner can actually bring about confidence in yourself. Chris is very clear on the difference between self-confidence and self-esteem & how they don't always go hand-in-hand as you may think. There is also sound advice on avoiding financial debt and how to make the best of and really appreciate what you've already got. This book is a little gem.

5.0 out of 5 stars Clear Headed Advice 27 Mar 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
While the market place is inundated with books offering 'the secret to success' and quick fixes (actually not so quick. They often involve follow up 'recommended' seminars, weekend course, DVDs etc.), Chris Elliot's book cuts through all that and offers jargon free, simple signposts to successfully assessing and redirecting one's life in times of crisis. As someone who recently lost my job of twenty years, I recognised from my own experience both the hurdles and the opportunities he describes. In Starting From The End I found not only timely warnings about how to avoid the places I didn't really want to go but affirmation that many of my chosen strategies were leading me where did want to be. I thoroughly recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Inspirational 14 Jan 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This is an easy book to read, but above all Chris has the ability to inspire the reader. Obviously written from the heart it is great to find someone who is prepared to share their experience, hints and tips. It is full of common sense as well as practical advice. Most of all it is accessible, no complicated jargon, no patronising just someone finally telling as it is. One of the chapters that should be read by everyone seeking employment, whether unemployed or currently working and seeking a new post, is the one regarding CV writing. I can't recommend this book highly enough.
