Switch failed x2. 11 April 2010
By David Campbell - Published on Amazon.com
I've purchased two of these switches; the first failed in under six months, the second failed in under three. It begins with an intermittent failure to switch either the keyboard or the mouse to one computer or the other, requiring either a restart of both computers or a complete disconnect/reconnect of the switch from both computers and all devices. It's as though the keyboard and mouse are being sent into some nebulous nether-world when toggling computers. Toggling back will 'usually' jump it back to the original computer, and thus, back into the real world, but not always - sometimes they just get lost in the ether. It then becomes increasingly frequent to the point that the frustration outweighs the convenience of using a kvm switch. I would strongly advise looking for alternative brands. Throwing this thing (both of them) in the garbage was a disservice to the garbage can and the rest of the trash in it. Seriously, don't hold your hopes out for a Startech kvm switch. There are better brands out there and you'll save yourself a lot of good hair.

Wireless works! 26 Aug 2009
By Padrigue - Published on Amazon.com
I've been using this Startech KVM for a couple of months and am very pleased with it, especially considering how poor the competition performs.

This is the only KVM I've found that supports wireless devices. My wireless mouse wouldn't work at all on a PS2 KVM, which makes sense (I don't believe that PS2 provides power to the mouse/keyboard). On an iogear USB KVM the mouse only tracked in the vertical direction rendering it useless.

I have a Logitech wireless optical mouse and a wired Mac keyboard for my Windows and Linux machines. Sound seems to route through at full strength. I've noticed in other KVMs with sound support that the signal is much quieter... not so with this Startech. I don't route the video through. I switch between the monitor's video inputs (DVI and VGA), so I'm not sure how well the VGA signal transmits through this KVM. Judging by how everything else works, I would assume that it comes through clear as a bell.

The cords come up just a little short so are stretched between my two machines. My windows laptop is docked right under the monitor and by the peripherals, the Linux desktop is about 5 feet to my right, [...] up against the desk. So the two foot cord is routed to the Windows machine and the four footer goes to the Linux box. It would have been nice if both cords totaled 8 feet or so (e.g. 2ft & 6ft or 4ft & 4ft).

The little switch box that is used to switch between the computers is very small (1"x1.5" or so) and convenient for the desk. Just sits next to my speakers. The KVM itself hangs off the back of desk, hidden. Very nice.

I'd recommend this product to anyone looking for a 2 port kvm switch. A little pricey at just [...], but worth it.
No problems, and mostly good things... 10 Sep 2009

This product just works. Better then the belkin's that I tried, No problems with the VGA, keyboard, mouse, or sound hook up. I wouldn't call this an issue cause I don't really think you can put in a fix for this, if you have a lit keyboard it will stay fully lit, even in hibernation mode. Both computer have to be shut down to turn this off. Mouse light shuts down fine. Still after trying multiple switches this works fine, with linux and windows set up's.
