More About the Author

Robin Bennett is an author and entrepreneur who has written several books for children, some under the nom de plume R.S Harding. He has also written books on the swashbuckling world of business: How to Make a Good Living Running Your Own Business, Kicking the Property Ladder and Start up Smart, all published by Harriman House.

Aged 21 he was all set to become a cavalry officer and aged 21 and a half, he found himself working as an assistant grave digger in South London wondering where it had all gone wrong.

He went on and founded London Tutors, aged just 23, and since then has gone on to start and run over a dozen successful businesses in a variety of areas from dog-sitting to translation. In 1997, he founded Monster Books, an independent publishing house.

Robin has mentored a number of young people hoping to make a start in business and has spoken at conferences on fantasy literature. His first book for young adults, Picus the Thief, won the Writer's News Indie Published Book of the Year Award in 2012.

His latest book for young adults, Angel of Mons, brings one of the most significant battles of WW1 to life. It is the clever and compelling story of Ben, a bullied school boy who learns about courage and doing what's right when he finds himself transported back 100 years to 1914 Mons. Angel of Mons is available now.

Titles coming soon include Moüsch the Crooked, the second volume in the award-winning Small Vampires series, and Iron Knights, a YA fantasy adventure.

About the Author

Robin Bennett came to business relatively late: not for him selling lemonade to neighbours from the front garden, cleaning cars with rags or a 4am paper round. Kindly grandparents and generous friends meant for a cosseted existence until being a penniless graduate plus the demands on an over-zealous bank manager forced him to start his first company, aged 23. All of which goes to show that entrepreneurs are just as often made, not born. Since founding the Bennett Group in 1992, he has started 8 separate companies - in private tuition, publishing, translation, dog kennels, sandwiches - all for less than £5000 each. 6 still trade, always in the black and never at the expense of high borrowing or the really important stuff, like family and friends.

Format: Paperback
This book is full of common sense advice from an entrepreneur who has set up several businesses. It takes you through all the things you need to consider when setting up and running a business, including planning and preparation, securing investment, marketing, sales, cash flow, accounts and suppliers.

The book is split into 5 chapters - Planning for Getting Started, Making Money, Growing Sensibly, Planning for the Long Term and Reflections. Even if your business is already up and running (like mine is) I would still recommend working through the book from the start as you will probably find things you hadn't considered when setting up your business originally.
I found this a very easy book to read and will definitely be going back to it for further business advice. I would recommend this book to anyone starting or building a business.

Got this while engaged in a startup activity, as I was reading everything whether rated good or bad. Knowledge is a good thing. nearly all ideas were fresh, and stated in a sequential manner such that you could put together a Gantt chart for those of us who are anal retentive.
