Product Description

Product Description

Start Small, Stay Small is a step-by-step guide to launching a self-funded startup. If you're a desktop, mobile or web developer, this book is your blueprint to getting your startup off the ground with no outside investment.

This book intentionally avoids topics restricted to venture-backed startups such as: honing your investment pitch, securing funding, and figuring out how to use the piles of cash investors keep placing in your lap.

This book assumes:

* You don't have $6M of investor funds sitting in your bank account
* You're not going to relocate to the handful of startup hubs in the world
* You're not going to work 70 hour weeks for low pay with the hope of someday making millions from stock options

There's nothing wrong with pursuing venture funding and attempting to grow fast like Amazon, Google, Twitter, and Facebook. It just so happened that most people are not in a place to do this.

5.0 out of 5 stars Plain & simple (without all the VC stuff) 16 Aug 2011
By MvW
Format:Paperback
The author does not give any advice or ideas for VC funding, just very practical, easy-to-realize tools and hints for your small, self-funded (say bootstrapped) start-up.

He also clearly points out the main aspects of doing business and stresses that the product itself (i.e. software code) is only 1/3 of your final offer/solution.

In my view, a must-read for all the starting entrepreneurs (mainly focused on ICT) or entrepreneurs-to-be.

5.0 out of 5 stars A business book worth reading 7 Mar 2012
Format:Paperback
It is really refreshing to find a book full of practical, realistic advice on building a real, successful company rather than trying to be the next google. Rob is also very honest and puts in a lot of his personal experiences.

4.0 out of 5 stars Meaty 19 Jan 2013
By Classe
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Short but meaty, with a lot of practical advice. Hence 4*. Focused on web startups and how to build a portfolio of niched web startups.
