The author does not give any advice or ideas for VC funding, just very practical, easy-to-realize tools and hints for your small, self-funded (say bootstrapped) start-up.

He also clearly points out the main aspects of doing business and stresses that the product itself (i.e. software code) is only 1/3 of your final offer/solution.

In my view, a must-read for all the starting entrepreneurs (mainly focused on ICT) or entrepreneurs-to-be.

It is really refreshing to find a book full of practical, realistic advice on building a real, successful company rather than trying to be the next google. Rob is also very honest and puts in a lot of his personal experiences.

I read this book in two sittings and yes its fairly short but that is because it is packed solid of useful, actionable advice from someone that has been there and done it. If you are a developer this should be made required reading, simple as. Just because you *can* build something doesn't mean that you should. I realised last year (after 20+ years developing) that I had been doing everything wrong. You have to start with a viable market first and then build the product only when you have interest.

As a developer you probably have ideas for products and start building them. That is completely wrong. This book explains why and how you should validate ideas first. The simple fact of software products or services is this; you will never have a technical problem to solve because even if you can't do it yourself you can hire someone who can. What you will have is a marketing problem. Because without interest and potential paying customers you won't generate any money for your efforts!

If you are developer you must read this book.

If you are not a developer you must read this book.

If you are thinking of creating a software product or launching a software as a service offering you must read this book.

It is that simple.
