I watched the Premier of this on the Disney channel and once again Disney has not failed to deliver with this quirky and cute movie!
Disney is a master of fairytale and this film was modern in its perception of meeting the handsome prince. He came in the form of the famous and charming popstar Christopher Wilde, who is played by amazingly talented Sterling Knight from Disney channel's Sonny With A Chance and Zack Efron flick; 17 again. Christopher Wilde could be like any popstar we know in his ways and is taking things for granted and letting others decide his career for him. In doing so, he has has missed out on the normal things that us normal teenagers do and have to deal with such as being grounded and short of money.
This changes when he meets a normal regular teenage girl called Jessica Olsen, who is not into the whole Christopher Wilde hype and phenomenon, instead she does not understand why all the girls are obsessed by him, especially her sister Sara, who makes her come on a trip in order to track Mr.Wilde down. After her sister has gone to a club where Sterilng is meant to be and she is left in the car, Jessica gets bored and goes to look for her sister after hours have passed by, only to bump into Christopher leaving the club trying to dodge the papparazzi. This starts of a chain of run ins where they meet again, including a hilarious scene where Christopher drives Jessica's car into mud and they are stranded after what had been a promising day of fun and sightseeing.
They bond and they realise that they like each other but they are brought back down to earth and reality when Christopher explains that she can never tell anyone about their adventures that day. Heartbroken, Jessica leaves the beach crying and Christopher is surrounded by fans and the paparazzi who realise the true connection between him and Jessica and Jessica is hounded and both are forced to lie about knowing each other. It is only when Christopher sees Jessica, the only girl to ever be honest with him, lie on tv for him, he realises that he has been wrong and a fool and sets about trying to sort out his life and make it up to Jessica.
The ending lets our Popstar Prince sing out his apology to Jessica at a school dance where he tells the papparazi he was the one who lied and he asks Jessica for forgiveness and a date free of hiding and disguises.
I really loved the film, it is something that anyone any age dreams about; meeting someone famous that they really like and falling in love (swap Christopher Wilde to Robert Pattinson for more modern perception). It is the ultimate in modern fairytale and Disney once again does it brilliantly.
A great family film but maybe one for the girls :)
Also check out the soundtrack, its really good and 'something about the sunshine' song which is featured in the film is on it!
