Product Description

New graphic novel adapts and expands the blockbuster film based on the Robert Heinlein story!

Starship Troopers is a graphic novel which adapts the film of the same name and expands upon it by adding two complete stories which are set in the period before the invasion, before mankind was embroiled in battle with the insect-like creatures from another world. It all begins with Insect Touch when Earth sends its first line of defense to Klendathu, a remote planet in the far reaches of space. If their instruments are correct, this backwater planet is exhibiting signs of life. And while the scientists are debating whether or not that life would be intelligent, the crew aboard the spaceship Cortez discovers that it is, at the very least, deadly.

The story continues in Brute Creations. Having survived the Cortez ordeal, Jean travels to the distant planet Dantana to teach a course on History and Moral Philosophy -- but it's the invading arachnid aliens that learn the lesson! Rasczak leads the civilians against a surprise attack, and it's up to the uninitiated crew to protect Port Joe Smith until the Mobile Infantry can arrive!

It all comes to a mind-bending climax when Johnny Rico joins the mobile infantry to see the galaxy and defeat the "bugs", the big, stupid insectoids from another planet. But it looks like the creatures are smarter than he expected, and it looks like the fight will take him straight back to Earth! Follow this classic sci-fi thriller from the first contact with the alien species through the first intergalactic war of all time!

From the Author

STARSHIP TROOPERS graphic novel expands on the film.
My story, "Brute Creations," details the Bug attack on Port Joe Smith which is mentioned in passing in the STARSHIP TROOPERS movie. "Brute Creations" also expands on Jean Rasczak's role in the Bug War. Warren and Gordon's story is a prequel to the movie, and Bruce's is the official movie comics adaptation.

Dark Horse has done it again. They have succesfully drawn a comic which reflexes the envirement of the book/movie so perfectly and with so great detail. The comic is split up in three sections: The first story is about how the war began between the bugs and the humans. The artwork is excellent in typical Dark Horse style: Clear colors, great detail and good character reflexing. The second story is about the slaughtering at Port Joe Smith. In this story the drawings are somewhat rough, but it is still a excellent plot. The third and last story is a summary of the film. I say summary because some scenes are skipped and some characters (Like Ace Levy!) is hardly mentioned. All in all I am glad I bought the comic...it is worth the time and money and it is a must of all StarShip Troopers fan.

Dark Horse, justly famous for developing fine movie based comics like the Aliens and Predator lines, does it again with this excellent Starship Troopers graphic novel. The book contains three stories; the first details mankinds first encounter with the Arachnids, the second tells the tragic tale of Port Joe Smith, and the third is the story of the movie itself. The artwork in the first and third stories is stunning. Crisp, clear and full of technical detail, it perfectly captures the slightly glossy feel of the movie. The art in the second story is less impressive, but no less powerful. The writing throughout is superb, a perfect mirror to the "gung-ho" attitude of both novel and film. If you're a fan of "Starship Troopers" in any form, do yourself a favour and buy this book. You won't regret it.

What a waste 21 Jan 2003
By The Old Philosopher - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
At least they saved the title. Or should we say they stole a good title to market trivial trash. It copies the movie, and has all the flaws. The troopers in the movie had no guns. We're expected to believe that they flew starships and the best personal weapon they could find was an automatic rifle hardly better than 20th century. They had no guns. Even a battery of civil war field pieces would have been a major improvement. A Sherman tank would have been a miracle. Given the starship technology a viewer/reader would expect them to carry real guns that fire real destruction, not those puny ineffective popguns they died holding. The lack of credible weapons makes these troopers seem like ineffective jerks and destroys the credibility of the whole thing.

Heinlein's troopers wore armored suits and carried weapons sufficient to destroy everything alive within several hundred yards. They had to pay attention when they got within half a mile of each other so they wouldn't wipe each other out. Not these fools, they have to fire a hundred rounds to kill one unarmed bug. Pathetic and unbelievable.

The original Starship Troopers spends half the book discussion moral philosophy of government, command structure of troops, and the morals of space exploration. This has none of that. What a waste.

What? 8 Jun 2001
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
Maby I'm biased a little bit, but i found this book uninteresting and insulting to Robern Heinlein (may he rest in peace). I felt the book strayed too far from the original purpose of Heinlein's excellent book. This novel detailed the military aspect well, but completely missed the philosophical aspects of Heinleins book that made it a classic. The book is often thought of with the movie, even though they are nothing alike. It is unfortunate that this other seemed to have never even read the novel Starship Troopers, much less adhered to its purpose.
