Book Description

1 Aug 2008 Photography
A reprieve from post-war austerity, the 1950s epitomized a time of glamour with its film icons and automobiles, which are admired and emulated to this day. Nothing said, "You've made it," quite like getting glammed up and going for a spin in your brand new automobile. The shapes and shades of cars were bright and exaggerated. Car design showed a fervent embrace of the future and a willingness to experiment with something new. Riviera Cocktail photographer Edward Quinn captured all the stars and idols from the worlds of film, music, and the arts, as well as their admirers. Picasso and his Hispano-Suiza, Brigitte Bardot in her Lancia, and many more are featured with their motor toys. With a keen eye and playful exuberance, his images define fifties style.

1.0 out of 5 stars Stars and cars of the 50's 7 Oct 2009
Format:Hardcover
Here is a collection of cars that you would love to own, as used by the glitterati of the period. I guess this is a sort of 'Hello' for the classic car lover. These are photos without story of the rich and famous, both in and around the most fashionable area of the time, but focus is entirely on their transport. And what cars. As an ardent fan of teh Lancia Aurelia and Porsche 356, I am bound to be satisfied. Even the humble Citroen 2 CV has its place.

3.0 out of 5 stars Curiously unengaging but lovely 22 Sep 2010
By notacriticjusta fan - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Verified Purchase
Beautiful large format and excellent quaility. About 1 in 5 photographs are artistically memorable, with the rest interesting but not amazing. Though the stars and cars are well identified, one extra sentence about each with the photos would have added considerably to the interest. This is a book that lends itself to a good look one time, not a book that you will pick up time and again. Fun for period auto enthusiasts, but the cars are definitely secondary in emphasis.

The book arrived in quick time and has great quality, I recommend the seller to all of the Amazon! The pictures are great and show a very good time in the history of cinema in the cities of Nice, Cannes and Monaco. Very good!
