From the Back Cover

The first of three books derived from the immense amount of work that has gone into producing four TV series, Big Cat Diary: Lion, is designed to be a companion volume providing a complete picture of the lives of the big cats that live in the Masai Mara and beyond.

As well as a detailed examination of biology and behaviour, the book provides an historical perspective of the big cat families featured in the series. The book also looks outside the Masai Mara Game Reserve, to the Serengeti National Park in Tanzania and the Ngorongoro Crater, and Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe and South Africa.

Finally there is the question of how to conserve our big cat populations. There could be as few as 15,000 lions left in Africa. How can we ensure they can maintain breeding populations, space to hunt and sufficient prey to survive?

Lions are the animals visitors most want to see in safari, the king of beasts, Big Cat Diary: Lion will ensure all cat lovers will not be disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fill the gaps between the shows 5 Feb 2010
If you love the serie and wish there were more seasons available on DVD, you have a great chance to get your Big Cat fix with this book by Jonathan Scott.
The book simply sum ups each season show but fills in the gaps. We get to know what happened to the Cats before and after the show. Scott also shares a lot of knowledge about Big Cat in general (behavior, statistics, biological facts, etc) I also appreciated learning about how they film Big Cat Week. And of course, Jonathan and wife Angie Scott being photographers, the photos alone are well worth buying the book.

A fantastic book and a "must have" for Big Cat fans. It vividly brings to life the pleasures and traumas of the series. Let us hope that the BBC see sense and bring the series back (without Kate Silverton)

Brilliant photographs by the Scotts who know the area and cats so well. You do not even have to have watched the TV series, although it helps, to appreciate the book and the beauty of the Mara. Such a tragedy that there won't be a Big Cat Diary in 2010, so the book will be our only link with these amazing animals and the people who study them.

This is an excellent book. The photographs are stunning and it is really interesting to follow the lives of the individual animals over the twelve year period. It is concise.
For those people who have never been lucky enough to visit the Masai Mara it is the next best thing. For those who have it renews fantastic memories.
