Product Description

“Every time you appear on screen someone will die.”

That’s the stark warning given to Jessica Lee, the undisputed ‘Queen of Trash TV.’ She’s the host of a confessional talk show on network television with millions of fans. But one deranged viewer is out to destroy her career. He demands that her programme be scrapped and tells her to stop appearing on TV. To prove he means business he claims his first victim – a young woman who is found dead with her throat cut.
Jessica and her bosses face an agonizing dilemma: take the show off the air or risk more murders. They decide to defy the killer, for fear of setting a dangerous precedent. But there are dire consequences.

James Raven, author of Stark Warning, has worked for over thirty years in the television industry and drew on his experience when writing this novel. He’s also the author of Rollover, Urban Myth, Red Blitz, Brutal Revenge and Arctic Blood.
Praise for James Raven’s highly acclaimed thriller Rollover:
“An excellent book. Extremely well crafted and readable. It has a real sting in the tale,” Fred Dinenage, one of Britain’s best loved TV presenters.
“Find a quiet corner and enjoy that rare thing – a tale that makes you hold your breath,” Nick Knowles, TV presenter.
“Extremely satisfying thriller and great entertainment,” Booksmonthly Review.
“Rollover is a cracking crime novel. The plot is pacy and compelling – the essence of the polished ‘unputdownable’ novel,” Hampshire View Magazine.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic TV storyline 6 Aug 2012

Stark Warning
What a great Tv storyline, and my first time reading this author, they always say the best authors and storylines are from authors that know their subject, anyone who has ever watched the Jeremy Kyle type show here in the UK will understand why this subject is so topical, or the type of show made popular by Jerry Springer.
Great characters with a plausible London setting and a great detective as central character. I'll certainly be looking out for more of this authors work.
Highly Recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars VirtualFish 6 Aug 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
I was lucky enough to stumble onto this author in the UK where he was doing a book signing for his other book - Rollover. The plot for Stark Warning is excellent and hooks you in immediately. The premise focuses in on a TV presenter who is told that, "Every time you appear on screen someone will die." Before I knew it my Sunday afternoon became Sunday evening as the book kept my attention from start to finish. If you are looking for a new Author I highly recommend James Raven and the book Stark Warning.

Downloaded this book for free and was not disappointed. Great characters, good plot and written in the first person which I like. I hope there will be more books featuring Sam Quinn.

3.0 out of 5 stars Stark Warning 15 Aug 2012
By Joo (in UK) TOP 1000 REVIEWER

I came across this book on the free list. It caught my eye for the blurb, yet I was very suspicious of the reviews. 80% of them had only reviewed James Raven books and given it 5 stars. I very nearly didn't download it, but I tried the sample and that was it, I was in.

This is a police procedural story, but the usp is that it is about the lead detective in a Celebrity Crime Squad. A killer is threatening to kill someone every time a talk show host is seen on TV.

This book was very readable. There was nothing much that held me up or pulled me out of the story. It wasn't the most wonderful story, but certainly an enjoyable one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Most Enjoyable 1 Nov 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I loved this book. It moved along well and made you want to know what happened next. It features a TV host called Jessica who hosts a show a la Jeremy Kyle and it seems somebody has taken exception to her and decides if she appears on TV anymore then people will die. Police Inspector Sam Quinn is in charge of this case and I really liked him despite his faults and I'd like to read more tales featuring him too.
Luckily I got this free on the Kindle but will look for more by this author.

3.0 out of 5 stars Media most horrid! 12 Jun 2013
By NavinRJ
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
If you're looking to dip your toe into the world of crime fiction then this is a good place to start. Stark Warning delivers on an intriguing premise with a simple yet twisty tale exploring the dark side of celebrity and the media. Quinn is a flawed protagonist, as all the truly compelling ones are - with a darkness beneath his goodly soul, carrying the burden of an expensive secret.
Of course, the less you know going into this the better - other than to say this is a snappy and tightly plotted ride. Perhaps the dialogue occasionally fizzles when it could crackle, but that does little to diminish the fun to be had here. And if it's all over rather quickly then that's a good thing isn't it? I'd always rather have the wheat without the chaff, thanks very much. Best to be left wanting more...

5.0 out of 5 stars I wish I could write like this! 28 May 2013

Stark Warning is a great book that's very well written.

The author certainly knows his subject, I know this having worked in media in the past.

The story is a thriller focused on a TV presenter whose appearances on screen literally results in people being killed. Thus follows a cat and mouse chase between the police and a serial killer.

Lots of twists and turns and plenty of shocks until we finally find out 'whodunnit' For me it was un-put-downable!

This will probably be made into a film at some point.

Recommended 5/5

5.0 out of 5 stars Enticing Book... 30 April 2013

Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
This great thriller follows the tale of Jessica Lee, a famous talk show host who is threatened by the stark warning: `every time you appear on screen someone will die'. As the story unfolds we read about the first women who has fallen victim to the threat, and we follow Jessica, Sam (the detective) and the TV Company on their treacherous journey with the killer.

It is evident that someone who has had a lot of experience working in the television industry has written this book. The detail and knowledge of the setting and business has obviously come out of years of experience and knowledge.

The fantastic storyline entices you right from the start and keeps you hooked throughout. The exciting twists and turns the plot takes are unexpected and sure to keep you on the edge of your seat. I read the entire book over one weekend because I got so involved with it. I then passed it onto my fiancé who is currently enjoying a good read.

I particularly liked the character development throughout the book. Raven creates fantastically believable and relatable characters. I often find myself disappointed at shallow or surface level characters in the thriller genre. This author is clearly very talented and creates beautifully deep characters, yet doesn't slow the story down with the detail.

The story moves along quickly and is a great example of a thriller story. I have never read anything by this author previously, but am looking forward to buying more of his work.

Overall, I think this book is a brilliant story that is sure to hook you in right from the start. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who loves a good mystery thriller. Personally, I hope it gets made into a film one day because it is very good!
