From Amazon.co.uk

It’s a disappointment that Stargate Universe has come to an end with its second season. The third major series to spin out of the original Stargate movie, the show arrived in the midst of a testing time for science fiction television, and with ideas of doing something a little different, the ratings, sadly, meant its run was set to be a very finite one.

Fortunately, there’s plenty that the show managed to put on screen in its short lifespan that makes it worth checking out. And Stargate Universe’s second season ensures it goes out with some style.

We find, this time around, the Destiny in increasing trouble, with supplies short on the ground, and a crew whose relationships continue to bristle. Granted, this is all nothing new. But Stargate Universe’s writing takes the show off in directions you might not be expecting. It’s certainly willing to take its chances, and as such, maybe that’s what’s left some people cold. It’s a pity, though--Stargate Universe is ambitious science fiction television, with a quality cast and strong execution. One or two episodes don’t quite measure up, but that’s a small price to pay in this instance.

This is a show very much worth discovering, if you haven’t already. --Jon Foster

Product Description

SGU follows a band of soldiers, scientists and civilians, who must fend for themselves as they are forced through a Stargate when their hidden base comes under attack. The desperate survivors emerge aboard an ancient ship, which is locked on an unknown course and unable to return to Earth.

In Season 2, the Destiny continues its journey through the Universe, while its crew suffers from a lack of supplies and no knowledge of its final destination. Struggling to control the ships systems, tempers and personalities of the crew clash. Facing uncharted space and enemies who would take the ship by force, the Destiny crew persevere in their struggle to stay alive and find a way home.

5.0 out of 5 stars Frakking Awesome 15 Jan 2011
Format:DVD
The Brilliant SGU continues to deliver intelligent scifi drama. The storylines have multi arcs, intertwining with each other, unravelling its charms just like a book, so only attentive viewers will experience its true brilliance, casual/lazy viewers need not apply.

Louis Ferreira wonderfully portrays Young, whose immense stress over his command duties, his personal issues and Rush's shenanigans have pushed him to the edge. He doesn't wink and crack jokes, he behaves like a real person as do the others. The scene with Young and the dying crewman is shocking and really strikes a emotional note, adding to the overall tension.

Why people want the same old thing over and over again is beyond me. Scifi needs to change and expand in order to survive and that is exactly what SGU has given us. I've watched all 30 episodes so far, I didn't text while watching, I didn't email or talk on the phone, I watched the show.
SGU is splendiferous in all respects and demands attention. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Will be sadly missed 14 Feb 2011
By J. Cox
Format:DVD
I personally completely disagree with anyone who says the series was boring or not as good as the first stargate or atlantis, these people simply dont understand intelligent story lines and charactors, someone here said that there are no characters to "relate to" (supposedly compared with the previous series) but if you think SG-1 and the team on atlantis is easy to relate to then you are not human, since they do not act at all like any people do, they make hilarious decisions, ones that (for the team leaders at least) special forces officers would NEVER be so hilariously gullible.

The fact is, SGU is a grown up series, i grew up watching SG1 and Atlantis, and there perfect for that, but SGU is for people who can understand realistic characters, and real human emotions, people arnt perfect (like sg1 and atlantis) people make mistakes, there selfish.
You might find yourself asking, well if they act just like everyone else, why watch it? Isnt that just going to be boring/depressing?

No, that is why i dont watch Eastenders or any array of terrible soaps, but the premise of this show is taking normal people and throwing them into an unbelievable and catastrophic situation, and a storyline which i think is probably the best sci-fi out there!

Now its been canceled because immature Americans wanted more children's tv from SG1 (dont get me wrong i loved the show for what it was, but SGU is far better in every way), We in the UK didnt get a say as usual, but i strongly advise those who have not watched it to give it a go, I for one loved it and will miss it greatly.

Its one of the very few actually realistic gritty (i can actually relate to what this guys doing) Sci-fis out there, only other one i can think of is Firefly, another great series cancelled due to presumerably immature people not liking it when someone kills the baddie when in other shows they would be so gullable and end up letting him go, only to be shot in the back next time round. Pitiful.

5.0 out of 5 stars Premature review but i had to say something 15 Nov 2010
Format:Blu-ray
Ok, so i realize that this is quite a premature review, but after viewing the first six episodes on Sky during a marathon sunday session, (have to love sky plus) i had the overwhelming need to blab and yell and cajole anyone and everyone on the wonders of SGU.
The second series does not disappoint, it thrills, and captivates. The creative team have completely superseded their first series they have developed the characters, adding layers of meat to their bones, throwing in both overt and subtle variations to life on board the Destiny. They broadened the scope of alien threats, delved expertly into the fragile human side of its leading characters, not only showing us their warts but what lies beneath (ugh). Finally there is a Sci fi show willing to giving the audience something to revel in, I have nothing negative to say, except that i want more, more of the same please, more surprises more darkness more fragility more special effects.
This is without any doubt the best sci fi show around. It trumps those that have preceded it and if it continues to grow as it has done, it shall be remembered for a very, very long time to come.
SGU for ever.

This is a great science fiction story. Unfortunately the series finished early so the ending is not the best. But full marks for a unique story.
