Manufacturer's Description

The SV231DDVDUA 2-port Dual Monitor KVM Switch (DVI+VGA) offers a complete multimedia switching solution, letting users control two Dual Display computers using a single USB mouse and keyboard peripheral set. With support for high-resolution video interfaces, this dual view KVM switch provides one VGA (analog) and one DVI-I port per computer connection, as well as audio switching capability between connected computers.Delivering versatility for virtually any application, the DVI/VGA KVM switch features an integrated 2-port USB hub that allows connected USB 2.0 peripherals to be shared between connected computers, eliminating the need to purchase duplicate peripherals.Suitable for any workspace, the dual monitor KVM switch offers a compact desktop KVM design and features a rugged metal chassis that helps ensure durable performance. While both DVI-I (analog mode) and DVI-D (digital only) are supported by the KVM, both source PCs must output the same signal type for proper switching. Works nice but... 29 Jan 2011
By Quirk - Published on Amazon.com
I purchased this unit to allow me to switch between a desktop computer and a laptop in its docking station. I run dual monitors for both, and my desktop and laptop both have one VGA and one DVI connector each. So this product seemed like the perfect fit.

In the end the device is now working well... but be prepared to spend time dealing with the unexpected. My advice is that you be very careful about the DVI cables you select (DVI-D Dual Link cables are required for the digital connections... "end of cable" adapters spelled trouble for me). In addition, like other reviews mentioned the USB port that is intended for the keyboard will work, but if your keyboard has "special functionality" don't expect those functions to work. I found that moving the keyboard to one of the other console USB ports will allow special keyboard functions to work, but then you lose the ability to use "hot-key strokes" to switch between systems. The work around is that you can still use the "Select" button on the front of the KVM to switch between systems - a unfortunate compromise.

Other than that, the unit works as advertized. Clean switching. I use a Logitech wireless keyboard and mouse with the tiny little "Unifying" reciever plugged right into the back of the KVM switch. I was surprised by how well that worked.

Not a good choice for a linux system 12 July 2010
By Russ Lowenthal - Published on Amazon.com

I bought this to switch between my dual-monitor linux (Ubuntu 10.04) and Windows 7 laptops in their docking stations. Works fine for Windows but with the Linux it periodically "chirps" and the monitors go blank - so you'll be staring at two nice big black screens for a second or so until it regains the picture. I contacted technical support but they weren't able to help and didn't really even seem to care once they found out the problem didn't replicate in the Windows environment.

Probably suitable for someone who just uses Windohs, but for anyone using Linux or Solaris x86 might not be the right choice.

DVI Ports too close together 26 Feb 2012
By R. Almond - Published on Amazon.com

I purchased this primarily so I could switch a monitor between two computers (a Mac and a Dell running Windows 7) both of which supported DVI-D output. Unfortunately, the DVI-D ports on the back of the unit are spaced so closely together so that even a DVI-D plug with the narrowest of clearance beyond the screws will rub up against each other. I found it impossible to find 3 cables that would work with the unit.

There tech support was responsive when working on some driver issues. I would consider buying another product from this manufacturer, but not this one. Its serious design flaw rendered it unusable for my primary purpose, switching monitors for two computers with digital out.
