Manufacturer's Description

The PEX2S952 PCI Express based serial card turns a PCI Express slot into 2 RS-232 (DB9) serial connections.

The adapter card is based on a native single chip design, that allows you to harness the full capability of PCI Express (PCIe) - providing optimum reliability and speed while reducing the load applied to the CPU by as much as 48% over conventional (bridge chip) serial cards.

The RS232 Serial Adapter Card is compatible with a broad range of operating systems, including Windows 2000/XP/2003/Vista/Windows 7/Server 2008 R2 (32 and 64 bit), Linux Kernel 2.6.11 and up, as well as MAC OS 10.4 and above.

Plus, the adapter card includes an optional half-height/low profile bracket that allows the card to be installed in virtually any computer case – making it that much easier to add serial ports to a PCI Express enabled computer, regardless of the size of the computer case.

I bought this card to use with Linux Ubuntu 10.04LTS, after checking that it would have Linux drivers. Unfortunately, the drivers will not compile and so far I have been unable to find any later versions that will work. So for me - this is a useless piece of kit. It work perfectly under Windows 7 though.

This worked great on our new Lenova Computer 20 Feb 2013

My wife needed a new computer but also need to connect an old travel agency ticket printer to the computer. Unfortunately new computers no longer have a serial port so we thought we were out of luck. We discovered that we could get a card to add this function so we ordered one from Amazon. Unfortunately the first StarTech would not show on her new computer. I thought it was a bad card, so back it went to Amazon. I ordered a new one and the same issue. I finally got a nice tech support guy on the phone at StarTech, yes they are here in the United States and you really get to speak to a live person.

He told me that some of the new computers have issues with the cards and I needed the one with the Oxford chipset in it. They look identical, so unless you get the proper product number from StarTech you may have a problem. We finally got the correct one with the Oxford chipset, installed it, it now showed up on my wife's computer and we were good to go. The printer works fine and all is well in the world.

I would suggest that if you order this one since this is the chipset that seems to work with most new computers.

I purchased this for use in a Windows 7 Host with VMWare running Windows XP for some old dos applications. The com ports were setup to pass through from the host to the virtual machine. It works perfectly. This is a solid product.

Works great! 19 Sep 2013

Installed pretty easily in Win7, although I did have to open up the Device Manager, find the ports, and install the driver from the included CD.

An automatic install would have earned 5 stars. It was easy to do, but could have been frustrating had I not known how to resolve it.

Fixed a longstanding problem with credit card device 18 Sep 2012

We use Verifone 1000SE pin pads (serial connector) at some client locations, and since Dell dropped the serial port on their SFF systems, we had been trying to use USB to serial adapter, but that was causing a lot of instability.

This card in one fell swoop eliminated all communication issues we were having with the USB to serial adapter cable. So, until serial finally goes away, this will be an essential product for us.
