This splitter is designed for a laptop where the socket for the Keyboard and Mouse is combined into a single PS/2 type connector (often printed green and purple on the socket). With the increasing popularity of USB connections for keyboard and mouse peripherals, many newer computer motherboards use this type of connection to save space an cost. Some motherboard makers allow both a PS/2 keyboard and a PS/2 Mouse to be used at the same time, hence the use of this type of adapter, but often motheboard manufacturers only allow one of either device to be used; the other having to be plugged into a USB port. In this latter case this adapter is unnecassry. Should a PS/2 splitter be required, however, this adapter is an excellent choice. It is well made and the tails are the right length to avoid undue stress on the socket. At the price it is excellent value for money.

Did not work for me 22 Feb 2012

Both my keyboard and mouse work OK when plugged into the purple (keyboard) socket of the splitter cable but neither will work when plugged into the green (mouse) socket so I cannot achieve my goal of my mouse and keyboard working together on the one PS/2 socket on my motherboard (Gigabyte GA-880GA-UD3H).

Maybe it's my system, not sure, but I plugged this into my asus maximus extreme IV PS2 splitter port and only either the keyboard or mouse would work but not both at the same time. I'm still researching this, so will give another review when I find out the root cause, suspect it's my computer rather than the Splitter though
