Product Description

Product Description

The ST3300U3S USB 3.0 Gigabit Network Adapter turns a single SuperSpeed USB 3.0 host connection port into an RJ45 Gigabit network port as well as three additional USB 3.0 ports.

Unlike with a USB 2.0-based adapter, this USB 3.0-based NIC lets you connect to your home or office network at full Gigabit bandwidth, with support for 10/100/1000Mbps. Plus, with support for features such as Jumbo Frames, VLAN tagging and Wake on LAN (WOL), this versatile network adapter offers a comprehensive Gigabit network solution.

The adapter features three USB 3.0 connection ports, which not only replaces the host USB 3.0 port required for connecting the Gigabit adapter, but also provides two additional USB 3.0 ports which can be used as a hub for connecting/charging multiple mobile devices (e.g. Apple® and Android devices).

Backward compatible with USB 2.0 and USB 1.x standards, the Gigabit Adapter/USB 3.0 hub will still support older USB devices and can also be used with an older system that does not have USB 3.0 ports (network speed limited by USB 1.x/2.0 bus), allowing you to mix and match USB 3.0/2.0/1.x devices. For further portability, the adapters can be used with or without the included external power adapter, eliminating the hassle of having to find an available wall outlet.

The ST3300U3S is backed by a StarTech.com 2-year warranty and free lifetime technical support.

I bought this to connect my new MS Surface Pro to my Ethernet network and to a big Dell touchscreen, wireless mouse and keyboard. It works perfectly, turning this highly mobile tablet into a perfect desktop PC!

I just bought a new Toshiba Kirabook (which is an ultrabook), and since it doesn't have an ethernet port, and I have often run out of USB ports, I thought I'd look for something like this.

I looked at this for a while, debating whether to get it or not, because I wasn't sure how portable it would be. I also looked at separate USB / ethernet adaptors and hubs to see if they would be better suited to my needs. I needn't have worried - the dimensions that are given in the product description are actually for the box it comes in! The actual dimensions of the unit itself are about 9.2 cm x 6.6 cm x 1.5 cm .. pretty tiny!

I like it because I can use it on its own (without any external power) for portability, but use the external power supply when I need to power something heavy like an external hard drive.

I am using it with Linux, and it even worked with the Linux Mint live distro (both ethernet and USB hub). One thing I did notice is that my Kirabook had a bit of a stumble when this unit was plugged in and connected to an ethernet cable, though it might have been just some sort of delay (perhaps looking for network boot?). Certainly it is quicker booting without it connected.

Just out of curiosity, I tried it with a Nexus 5 and Nexus 7 (via a USB Host / OTG cable): the hub part worked fine - the mouse I connected showed up as a pointer on the screen), but unfortunately the network connection didn't seem to register. It may be that other Android devices have suitable drivers for it.

All-in-all, this is a very nice little device, and suits my needs perfectly. If it came in silver, it would get 5 stars :-)

Nice and small. Fits under desk in wiring tray. Occasionally just stops working. Unplugging the cable to the computer and plugging back in does fix it but annoying.

This was bought to provide me with a means of connecting a USB printer to the Ethernet, so all our home machines could print to it without having to leave a dedicated PC running, or an NAS drive.

The specification says it can communicate bi-directionally, but at n point does it say it has to be plugged into a computer USB socket to operate.

For this reason, I had to send it back.

Had I wanted a fast adaptor to plug into a device without a USB3 port, ort an Ethernet port, then it would have been great,

Quality was good, and it was very small.
