I bought this but had some concerns. Will it work ok or damage my drive?
Installed this late last night, plugged in my SATA drive and powered my PC up keeping fingers crossed.

It just worked.... Phew.....
Drive has now been working for 28 hours without any problems or performance issues.

Two comments on the construction of the unit: 1) the release latch could be more robust, it feels a bit flimsy and 2) The keys supplied will not stay on the lock in either locked or unlocked position as the lock is spring loaded. You will need to find somewhere safe to keep the keys if you insist on locking the door (In my view this is essential to avoid accidentally releasing the door and unplugging the drive which the PC is on).

Excellent Unit 11 May 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase
Quite Excellent unit which allows the user to exchange SATA drives at the flip of a lock.
I have been using the unit now for over a year and it seems robust and well designed for the task it is meant to do.
Well worth the money if you need to store a lot of back-up data and relly helps as you can then remove the SATA drive and replace it with another one for normal usage.
I use it for storing back-ups, music and video and I can then take those hard drives out - put another one in and use that for my projects.
Hard drives are so cheap now it makes sense to me to do this rather than perminently installing hard drives when a case only hold a finite number of units.
Great Idea!

I bought this item to replace an existing tray and caddy on my PC.

My backup strategy is to clone the entire C drive to another disk, which I remove from the system between backups. This drive bay makes the whole process as simple as plugging in a memory card! With the advent of Win 7, I have been using the bay to swap system disks between 7 and XP, to compare them (very impressed with Win 7 so far). The bay has made this task as simple as it could be without having to resort to a dual boot configuration, which I didn't want to do.

Construction is adequate for its purpose, as long as reasonable care is taken when inserting and removing the disks (don't slam the door shut!). The life of the bay should only be limited by wear on the SATA contacts, which for most users will be negligible.

Works fine
This product is superb, although it is not very strong, but you can use screw to fix it tight in your case. Hot swap works smoothly.
