5.0 out of 5 stars Entertaining Christmas anthology 15 Aug 1999
By A Customer
Format:Mass Market Paperback
This holiday short story collection centers on the power of the Star of the Magi to help women fall in love during the Christmas season. The stories occur in different eras and are all entertaining and fun to read.

"Day of Wrath" by Jo Beverley. In 999 England, Hera returns home to learn that the Vikings defeated her father in a battle. Her beloved Raef, a widower, is her only comfort until she finds the Star of the Magi. Raef knows he married the wrong person, but will never wed again for fear he will hurt Hera. With the help of the Star she needs to convince him otherwise.

"Starlight Wedding" by Alice Alfonsi. In 1799, A saddened Felicity knows she cannot conceive a child. She finds the Star just before meeting William Court. She falls in love with him. Though he reciprocates, the bitter William is incapable of a warm relationship unless the Star magically intervenes.

"Last Kiss at the Loving Cup Saloon" by Tess Farraday. In 1899, Joe learns Lucy abandoned four kids when she ran away. He knows they need a lady to take care of them. He tricks Katherine, a mail order bride, to watch the kids. However, she locates the Star that helps her find love with Joe.

"Joy to the World" by Kate Freiman. In 1999, Angela mourns the death of her brother. His best friend Joshua offers her comfort. Though she loves his hugs, she hates the way he dodges her questions. Still she feels guilty that just a few days after her brother's death she is in love. However, the Star she recently found has helped alleviate some of her distress.

3.0 out of 5 stars Star of Wonder 1 Feb 2000
By Crazy for Words - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Mass Market Paperback
Legend holds that at the last Christmas of each century, a mysterious sapphire pendant blessed with the power of eternal love will find its way into the hands of a woman who needs guidance.

In Day of Wrath, Wulfhera of Foxton, in the face of 999 a.d. millenium turmoil, flees her convent sanctuary to her childhood home. There she finds more confusion for her heart when brought face to face with her first and only love Raef Eldrunson, whom she'd believed was lost to her. In Starlight Wedding, Miss Felicity Fairchild, spinster, agrees to a marriage of convenience after finding herself under the protection of Sir William Court, guardian of his brother's young heir. Last Kiss at the Loving Cup Saloon finds Joe Nelson the unwilling guardian of a brood of orphans. Kidnapping Katherine Stark, wife-by-proxie to the shady gambler who landed him in this mess, was a mistake and a blessing. Joy to the World is the last thing Angela McMichaels feels this Christmas. Instead of celebrating, she mourns the Mysterious and untimely death of her brother. Can she find aid and solace from loneliness in the arms of his best friend Joshua?

Conflicts abound in these stories of rediscovered hearts, providing readers with a good balance of love and adventure.
