My son had this for christmas 2011 and loved it, its taken some hard knocks and still is working perfectly well. The light saber stays extended all the time unlike the ones we had before that slide inside to make it smaller, but this has not detracted from the fun, the sound effects are brilliant and just like the real thing and goes with the movement of the saber and when it clashed with other objects or sabers i would highly recomed this toy for any star wars fans, the postal service was on time aswell.

I bought this as a gift for a 6yr old. The seller delivered swiftly (great :) but there were no instructions with the toy. It seems reading other reviews that finding no instructions is pretty common.
Now, had this had been a battle situation I would most certainly have perished as clearly being weak with the force I couldn't work out how to switch it on. There's a plastic bit sticking out on the handle... could that be it? NO.. don't twist this off, it wont help you. Various other parts of the handle also look like buttons, but aren't. So I checked out Hasbro's website... no instructions. Then I spent a while watching youtube clips trying to work it out, again not clear. So I dismantled it and changed the batteries.. again nothing.
I was just on the verge of posting it back as a dud, when I found the solution: on the handle there are a row of what look like little LED lights, press these in and it works.
(BTW - you need to take two screws out to change the batteries.)

What a choice of present for my 6yr old grandson. Knowing how much he enjoys playing the Lego Starwars on his DS, I purchased this red 'Darth Vader' lightsaber as a birthday present, whilst his parents got him a green 'Yoda' version. That was over a month ago and despite the very many battles that have taken place since, he has not tired with the thrill of switching on and duelling with anyone who is prepared to be Yoda.
The sound effects of this Ultimate FX lightsaber whilst powering up and down, and the flashing and clashing sound effects in a 'battle' during normal daylight conditions are brilliant. However, when evening comes along and normal daylight fades, these effects are STUNNING!
Considering the 'hammering' it has had, it still amazes me that the plastic materials used in the manufacture of this lightsaber have not split, broken or shattered long before now. This is a well designed toy and jusifies its price bracket. I am very pleased with this purchase and I have no reservations, whatsoever, in recommending it to others who may be viewing it.

Maybe batteries are not for playing 24x7, however my kid uses at least 15 mins per day for 3 weeks. It is really enough. Still did not change the batteries.
Handle could be made of metal or something else. Plastic is little cheap.

This was a big hit this Christmas. Bought one for each of my two sons and it's been nonstop star wars play for the past two weeks. So far they are both working despite endless battles.
The noises are really good, and it's very clever that they make different noises if you use them in different ways, including an authentic clashing sound when you hit them together. Also love the way they light up from the bottom up like the ones in the movies!
They are quite long, so I would't really recommend them for under 5's, but very satisfying for anyone who loves star wars.

I purchased a pair of these, and they have exceeded my expectations. If you or younger members of family like Star Wars these will be a sure-fire win. They're a good size, sturdy enough to withstand some fairly sustained duelling, and they look great. The light effects are spot on; a nice touch is the way they light up from the hilt and power down from the tip, in the manner of 'real' lightsabers. The sound effects are a little quiet, but not too much so, and include a steady hum with various clash effects when they hit something, and a satisfactory power up/power down sound effect as they should. The hilts are plastic and feel a little bit lightweight, but on the positive side they aren't too heavy for kids to use easily. The 'official' reason for buying these is as a birthday present for my five year old daughter - she will undoubtedly love them, and it's going to be tough to wait for six weeks until her birthday before we get to use them!
