Can it be true that the Empire have a scheme to set up a rebellion against themselves?
I like the plot of Star Wars:The Force Unleashed but didn't really enjoy the way it was told. The story is told from the perspective of a Droid and a pretty but vague love interest of our hero. The 'hero' is called Starkiller and he is Darth Vaders apprentice. Does that mean he's on the Dark Side. Maybe not.
The art in the book is good but rarely exceptional. The stand alone images look impressive enough but they don't flow as naturally as they should.
I'd give this book 3.7 out of 5, simply because my expectations for it were higher and I've read better Star Wars Graphic Novels such as Mara Jade :By The Emperors Hand, Empire Volumes 1,2 and 3 and Crimson Empire. Despite not enjoying it as much as I was hoping it still is an essential read for fans, as the Star Wars history it reveals is fascinating to discover. It's quite an epic tale, I just wish it had been told with more dynamism and depth and over more pages. Huge moments happen in very few panels or pages and then it skips on to the next event. I would like the characters to have been explored a bit more for their various motivations, especially "Starkiller" who we never know much about. All we know of "Starkiller" is a memory from his past(shown in a similar way to Lukes vision of Vader on Dagobar in Empire Strikes Back), and a rather sudden love for his beautiful Imperial pilot, and the fact that Vader has taught him some awsome dark side skills.
The other annoying niggle was characters throughout the comic being killed off in ways where it was obvious they'd likely survived. But I suppose it is a sci-fi fantasy and shouldn't be taken too seriously.

Thrilling! 6 July 2009
Format:Paperback
Star Wars: The Force Unleashed is a graphic novel of the video game of the same title. It tells the story of Starkiller, Darth Vader's secret apprentice, and how he was responsible for forming the Rebel Alliance seen in the original movie trilogy.

The story, while rather simple, is highly entertaining. It is very action-packed with several lightsabre duels (my favourite aspect of Star Wars), but none of it feels gratuitous. It is all there to further the story and it does just that.

The artwork ranges from 'very good' to 'superb' and overall does a brilliant job of capturing the characters' likenesses. The only exception is the character Maris Brood, who somehow doesn't look 'right' at least to me.

My only real criticism is that two important details are omitted. It does not include Starkiller learning his real name (an important part in the novellisation) and doesn't explain how PROXY (Starkiller's droid ally) manages to have his programming altered (also an important part in the novel).

Despite this, the graphic novel is a very enjoyable read that I highly recommend to fans of Star Wars, or just action-filled stories in general.

There is some great artwork in this comic and the story is very interesting. I liked the game and enjoyed the book, so the comic was the next step for me. Some people may question parts of the story that don't seem to fit in with the other Star Wars stories, but if you take it just as a good story, you'll enjoy it.
