Well, after 2 years Wizards of the Coast have decided to update their D20 Star Wars system! Is this an episode 2 cash-in or a worthy Rpg...

Well first of all, the most noticable thing about the book is the fact that they've added a whole 60 pages of new content! however, this content is spread throughout the entire volume, making an "add-on" book something of a nightmare - its worth the £20-odd just to have this updated material!

One of the areas that was disliked by fans in the 2000 edition of the rpg was the "relative" combat system for vehicles and spacecraft. This has now had a COMPLETE overhaul and has been updated to a more managable Grid based system (more in line with the d&d combat system) Each craft now has a movement value that can be spent on performing actions on this grid, the combat system is then standarised between all encounters (D20 + combat bonuses - and any participent can fire at another: ground troop vs low flying starship for example) making running a game much easier for the GM.

The other major change is the droid system - this now allows the player to be one of a number of droids, or construct their own. this adds endless possibilities to the payer who wants something different.

The rest of the book includes minor updates and changes to skills and feats, and includes additional prestige classes, and new player classes (Including the Tech Specialist - at last u can now play a mechanic or grease monkey!)

one minor gripe i have with this volume is the fact that some stats in older suppliments are made redundant and require a little work to fix, however, with the effort to update the listings (mostly the new speeds for starships) you will be able to still use ALL existing books. If u dont have the patience to update stats and own the STARSHIPS OF THE GALAXY book beware (however it's in your best interest to use the new space rules as they far surpass the old ones - so take the time to update your starship book!)

Overall, I believe that this is what the Starwars RPG should have been at launch! This edition is MUCH better than the original version, and I highly recommend getting this if u own the older version

Full marks!...

I'm a star wars fan and a gamer, so when i saw this book i thought it was right up my street. I've never done any role playing before and i thought that the game would be a hell of an undertaking and very complicated, but the book deals with different aspects of the game in a simple regimentd way. There is a comprehensive glossary and index and the chapters have clearly marked headers and sub-headings. The layout of the book is superb and the amount of colour in the book makes it very aestheticly pleasing as well as the innumerable pictures and excellent bits of art work every where you look. It covers all parts of the star wars universe in varying levels of detail but all the areas the book touches on tend to be expanded in there own supplements. In short this is one of the best rulebooks i have ever come across

Bill worked on the famous West End Games Star Wars RPG. He has taken all that experience and produced a gem, using the d20 system of D&D and, I have to admit, blown my socks off. Could have more detail on some stuff, but basically covers it all enough to let you get blasting Stormtroopers or swinging your Light Saber. Don't be proud, don't be shy, take a look at it - it's great - and I can't wait to see the rest of the range. This restores my faith in both Lucas & Wizards.
