Truth be told, Star Wars has become quite the toy commercial, but actually, that's not complete cause for complaint, as we wouldn't end up with awesomeness like the General Grievous Lightsaber. Hasbro have wisely held off on marketing this beast until they got it right, after all, a four-pack of blue and green lightsabers was hardly going to cut it. Whatever your thoughts on the prequel trilogy, that bit in 2005's Revenge of the Sith where Grievous assaults Obi-Wan with no fewer than FOUR spinning lightsabers was COOL. Up until now we've had to make do with the tonfa-lightsaber of yesteryear, but NO MORE!
I was initially tempted to buy a pair of these and go the full four-blade fury - don't. This is a tricky enough beast to wield on its own. Clear the decks before playing with this one as it's a not-inconsiderable 4-and-a-half feet in full spinner mode - you have been warned, as have the very small Jedi out there. It's an intuitive system though and you'll soon be revving this up and whirling about into things. The handle can either ratchet allowing flicks of the wrist to set off the spin, or even locked in place if desired. Smaller Jedi may find solace in the fact that the rotating grip can be taken out to create a more traditional lightstaff, or indeed, two mini sabers (they're the same size as the Yoda saber). It makes all the right noises, naturally, and lights up at both ends, unlike a lot of the original lightstaffs and build-it-yourself alternatives.
So I like this one; just be even more careful where you're playing with it. While rated as 5+, I'd supervise any Younglings under 8 with it.
