'The art is fantastic and you get to see a side of Boba Fett not many get to see.' --Geek Syndicate

Product Description

The end of the story in the hugely popular game The Force Unleashed left the Star Wars galaxy poised at the brink of civil war. But before that can happen, the Emperor and his apprentice, Darth Vader, have another plan already in play. The author of the original game, Haden Blackman, returns with a new story of treachery, deception, and the manipulation of the overwhelming power of the Force.

Without giving away any spoilers, all that can really be said about this effort is that it really adds very little to bridge the gap between Episodes 3 and 4. The story seems forced and is incredibly 'thin'. The artwork is okay, but nothing spectacular. Okay, to be honest? It's rubbish. The game's better, with great cut scenes (although like this book, add very little to what's already been established.)
If you're a completist, like myself, then no doubt no review will steer you from buying this as it'll be deemed 'necessary' for ones collection. But if you're not, and are hoping for some kind of fantastic new revelation within the star wars universe, you'll be sorely disappointed.

This comic is really good, especially for the price. It's action packed, and the art style is great. A must buy for anyone who's played the game and just Star Wars fans in general but I'd say play the game first :)

A missed opportunity. 21 Nov 2010
Format:Paperback
If you're a long in the tooth Star Wars fan you always approach new gaming or comic products with a certain amount of trepidation.

The Force Unleashed was flawed but by and large an enjoyable experience and one that was destined to spawn more chapters.

The story of Galen Marek is ripe for expansion and the news of further adventures of this tortured character left me feeling hopeful. The thought of a further journey where we could learn about his struggles and feelings and how they clashed with his moral code and vast power is an exciting prospect. If done properly, I thought, we would see an approach echoing the original trilogy where the story takes a dark turn and we're left with the foundations of a story that would fuel further material. I had my heart set on an artist with an ability to produce quality and atmospheric art - I even hoped for someone like Jae Lee. My thoughts were running away with themselves....

What I got was a very short story with a very good artist but one that doesn't set a tone. Francia has clear work and Rodriguez adds fresh colours but it all feels so wrong for the subject. Add to this the emphasis shift away from Starkiller and onto Boba Fett. This would be welcome for Boba Fett fans (myself included) if the character wasn't so poorly written. This new version of Fett is chatty, dating and unwilling to shoot someone because he is in a loving embrace - come on please! This is the most feared and efficient bounty hunter in the galaxy and he has developed a romantic side.

Starkiller (or at least, the books version of him) is barely seen in this book and a detailed delve into his psyche is never on the menu. Blackman's writing is lazy and pedestrian leaving me with no interest in the concept of The Force Unleashed III which is clumsily forced onto the final pages.
