this is an excellent book featuring main characters from the star wars universe as well as many others that appear only once or twice in the books and films however a very good book giving all sorts of tiny details into the characters as well as screen shots and artists drawings the one negative point is that this book does not contain characters from later novels

Neat pictures and many entries are cross referenced. The entries are told as stories which are entertaining in themselves. Two big drawbacks are 1) as with all these books that I've read, there is no indication of sources so you can't follow up any interesting references without a lot of research; and 2) the book is dated 1996 so misses out on the prequel trilogy and all the accompanying novels and TV series, and in fact a lot of entries have their history changed when the prequels came out. Interesting but outdated.

It's not hard to miss the fact that a lot of research went into this book. There are details and descriptions on virtually everyone, from the main stars of the films to the 'blink and you'll miss them' background types from the Mos Eisely cantina. If you read this book thinking you know everyone, prepare to be surprised. My only (slight) complaint is that there should be a revised edition to include additional characters and events that happened after this one was published.
