Attention! This is not another shoot 'em up Star Wars game! This program is more like SimPark, and your mission is to turn an unpopulated planet into a thriving ecosystem. Instead of traditional plankton, rabbits and deer, however, you use flora and fauna with unusual names like quenchweed, shacks and dewbacks. In all, there are about 80 alien species in this clever and complex ecological simulation, and each eats or is eaten by the other. The setting is the moon of Naboo, and the goal is to help a band of people-like Gungans increase in population and build a large underwater bubble city. You hover over the planet surface with a stock of animals and plant life. With each click of the mouse, you release a critter or plant as a counter tracks your bio-score and the population of the Gungans. You soon learn that certain species can live better in certain places and that it is wise to plant plenty of vegetation before introducing elements further up the food chain.

The ultimate goal is to create a biosystem that can support an entire city of Gungans, and the reward is to visit the exotic bubble city. As you work, you monitor population graphs, study an index of what each entity eats and listen to ongoing progress reports from R2D2.

The most common complaint is "What's the point?" "So you get a population of 100,000 Gungans, so what?" Missing is the key connection between the ecosystem and the Gungans. You never see the Gungans doing the harvesting... instead the animals and plants just disappear. While lacking in features that keep players motivated, clearly the program's strength is the exposure kids get to the intricate balance of ecosystems.

As a hero of the Battle of Naboo, you've been called before the Gungan High Council to handle a critical mission. Its city is threatened by overpopulation and you must establish a new colony on a nearby moon. The Gungans need you to create a world filled with fantastic Star Wars creatures and plants from across the galaxy. You must discover how these alien animals and plants interact and how they depend on each other to live. Only when you have an ecologically sound environment can a new Gungan city truly thrive. The fate of an entire civilisation rests in your hands--on the moon of Naboo, the most powerful force of nature is you. In this first Star Wars simulation designed for players age 9 and up, your goal is to transform the barren moon of Naboo into a thriving, balanced ecosystem and help the Gungans build a new underwater bubble city. From your transport ship, you control the release of Star Wars creatures and exotic plants into the empty landscape. Creatures move and interact using lifelike, 3-D animation and digital sounds. Monitor population levels, manage the food web, consult your online encyclopedia and harvest valuable resources that can be used to build the new Gungan city.

Perhaps a little too "worthy" sounding, but environmentalism and ecology has never been such fun - and addictive! A series of levels, including a helpful tutorial, beginners, advanced and 'missions' based on real-world issues, allows ages 6 to 60 years to be drawn in to the Gungan's dilemmas (not so different to our own)and enjoy the challenge of sustainable growth and survival. The automated, or more difficult player-determined, release of plants and animals (imaginatively weird, wonderful and named) are harvested by the Gungans for their own development, enabling them to build and populate their underwater city. Switching between the planet's surface and the underwater city, the graphics are superb. An encyclopedia, analysis tools (food chain, bio-sensors, landscape, sounds, etc), graphs and real-time hints and tips make the game gently educational (if you want it to be) as well as fun. Almost limitless game play options and environments - even allowing you to creat your own bizzare animals - makes it endlessly compelling and a challenge to complete the missions of varying difficulty. A cut above your normal game - We love it!!
