This is one of the better Vader stories. The art work is great; there are many fight and action scenes. Even the story line is excellent. The main thing it shows in this story is that even Vader and the Emperor can be taken by surprise once in a while. Vader shares the spotlight a bit with another character a young recent graduate of the imperial academy.

I young boy is injured by a rebel battle against the Empire. Despite Empires almost Nazi attitude towards injured or the weak it is surprising he is even allowed in the Imperial academy; I guess at least he is human. Despite this he graduates the Valedictorian of his year. What he does not know the rest of his class mates and head of the academy do not share his fierce loyalty to the Emperor. Academy and Navy stage a coup leave the Emperor near death, and Vader fighting his way to his master before he dies. In this Vader must rely more on tactics then he has since his days as Anikin. He thinks about the Ghost Prison a place where the Jedi banished their most dangerous criminal force users; 50% of whom were arrested by General Anakin Skywalker. Vader and his team must find the Ghost Prison, the use them as his new army, but can they be trusted and can they trust the Sith Lords?

Great story, great art work, bit of inner dialog, action and Darth Vader this is what comics are all about. Great addition to the Star Wars universe. Another review said he would have liked this to be a chapter rather than a whole. Actually it is both it is story that is strong enough to stand alone and is a prequel to the Star Wars series Empire issues 1-6 the original purge. After you read this you see how the seed to that story were planted.

Here we have the report of Laurita Thom who starts off here arriving at the Academy on Coruscant to graduate. Little does he know what is in store as he finds that the place is suddenly attacked by a terrorist plot, initiated by the headmaster, Gentis. We follow here what happens as the attack is started, and the fate of the Emperor and others. Thom finds himself with Darth Vader and Moff Trachta, trying to keep the Emperor alive. As Thom is about to find out, the Jedi have a secret that they have long kept, but with the power of Darth Vader this is about to change.

With lots of action and treachery this makes a good little read, and we see how Thom, a badly burnt, blind in one eye, and missing an arm cadet fares in the world. Both old and young should enjoy this book if they are fans of Star Wars; although I should point out there is quite a bit of violence here.

The graphics are well rendered and the story is surely more than enough to keep most interested. On a tablet device every frame can be enlarged if you so desire, so don’t worry if the print may look too small for you. To be honest though, most people should be able to read this easily enough without having to resort to using this facility, but it is always handy to have, especially as we don’t all have the same eyesight. As you will see Darth Vader once again shows how he has his own approach to getting things done.

This graphic novel was totally topnotch both the story and the art. I wasn't even suppose to read it (I have a lot of other books to read that needs to be finished soon) but I was sucked into the story and could just not quit reading it. The art was really good, the kind that I like, crisp and clean, with easy to read font. Every page was a work of art.

Growing up my favorite character in SW was Darth Vader, and he still is my favorite character. So that is one of the reason I really liked this graphic novel that and that the story was really good. Also, I didn't see the ending coming, I mean it all made sense but I was a bit: "wtf?"...I like it when books actually surprise me...

So, I recommend this graphic novel warmly to anyone that likes SW or just likes a very good graphic novel!

I do not read many graphic novels. I downloaded this story as it was free. I find the artwork does show up excellently on the kindle. Even though the speech bubbles jump out in size I still have great difficulty with the size of the words. For me this does knock the star rating down as I end up having to use a magnifying glass. There has to be a better way to increase the size of the words.

I got this coz it was free! Having said that, I was pleasantly surprised by the clever slant of the story (it tells it from a villain's perspective). Artwork is extremely good and look out for the surprise ending, I didn't see it coming. Highly recommended.

Beautiful art, great story and bound really nicely in a hardcover edition. This would be brilliant for any Star Wars fan although I would say it's aimed at 8 years to adult. You don't need any previous knowldge of Star Wars comics to read it either.

An engaging tale of the Empire. Vader is used to good effect and the character of Tohm is both disturbing and tragic as he falls under the allegiance of the dark Lord. And an unbeatable bargain, as Amazon offered this book for free. Recommended.
