5.0 out of 5 stars No Phantom Menaces Here 31 Oct 2012
Format:Blu-ray
Well.....Disney buys Lucasfilm and Episode VII is announced!!!! Yoiks!!! I didnt see that coming!! Nevertheless, until 2015.....we have this.
Another year and another series of this brilliant cartoon (which is really aimed at the kids, right?) I have really enjoyed. I know I should know better but Im STILL a big kid at heart hahaha and Star Wars was my first love so Im weak. And I love The Clone Wars. Well.....mostly. I still despise Jar Jar Binks but for the most part The Clone Wars gives me that Star Wars fix I love. The fix that was sadly absent from the, overall, hugely disappointing prequel trilogy. (Darth Maul, the Arena Battle in Ep 2 and the dark half of Ep 3 being the pick of the trilogy for me)

So season 4 begins somewhat underwhelmingly, I feel, as its an aquafest on the waterworld of Mon Cala, introducing us to a young Captain Ackbar, who will go on to be a 5 inch admiral in my figure collection and have a pivotal role in ROTJ, and unfortunately some Gungan antics. I just dont get the whole Gungan schtick but then Im not the target audience for them. They really are for the kids and certainly the kids in my house do like them. So a middling start to the season then a Jar Jar centric episode which I can sit through once every twin sunrise. Next up is a 2 parter for R2 and C3PO which just about avoids the same kind of stupidity as Jar Jar episodes but doesnt grate nearly as much.

Then we have the Umbara arc, which is a clone centric 4 parter and is just fantastic! We have Anakin Skywalker edging ever so subtly closer to the dark side while he, Obi Wan, Ahsoka and Rex get entangled with the slave trade, Ahsokas' arc developing nicely and Obi Wan going undercover in another truly epic 4 hander of a story which culminates in a breaking of the bond between Obi Wan and Anakin that changes things forever!

The season ends though on an even grander note. The return of Darth Maul! Another 4 parter leading upto the reveal of the mighty Sith warrior is another high point for the show. Asajj Ventress, the Nightsisters and Savage Opress (voiced by none other than The Kurgan, Clancy Brown) all return magnificently in a rollicking story which ends just as you want it to really start going. But that......will be season 5. Which I am currently watching on TV.

Now the extras and its as if the guys have actually been listening to me because for the first time ever we get crew commentaries!!! Seriously WOW! Thank you thank you thank you. The commentaries are over specific arcs of the season and are just fantastic. All in we get about 2 hours of entertaining and informative information relating to the production of the show from dudes who, obvioulsy, love Star Wars as much as me. Also, because they really wanna spoil us, there is at least a days worth of behind the scenes, animatics, previz, deleted scenes, concept art, storyboards etc etc. Jedi Mana from Heaven basically :)

The HD picture of this Bluray looks superb on my 42" screen through the PS3 and I have no complaints about the audio, although Im not pushing the audio side too much as I dont have any kind of cool speaker set up at the moment.
Overall a magnificent Bluray of a gem of a Star Wars TV show.

5.0 out of 5 stars Latest and greatest
Despite it is more expensive than in the Netherlands, but at least it has a much nicer cover with the original text instead of Dutch. That's why I was about to pay a little extra.

I've enjoyed all the series so far and this one's been no different. Some of the story lines have been quite dark, both tonally and visually. Read more
