Amazon.co.uk Review

Clone Campaigns is the first add-on disk to the hugely successful real-time strategy game built on The Age of Empires engine, Star Wars Galactic Battlegrounds. It is also the first PC game to feature content from Star Wars: Episode II: Attack of the Clones.

This content mainly comes in the form of two new campaigns: The Old Republic and the Confederacy of Independent Systems. You can choose to either take control of the shiny new Jedi controlled Army of the Republic, forefathers of those pesky Imperial Stormtroopers, or the combined armies of the Confederacy complete with the insect like Genosians, and Techno Droids.

The action in Clone Campaigns commences on Geonosis, with the aftermath of the big battle scene at the end of the movie.. Each campaign features seven missions to complete and over 200 new troop, vehicle and ship units and takes you through the beginning of the infamous clone wars.

New features are also added to the original game with new units, orders and effects all selectable in the older campaigns. All the new and old armies are selectable in the Multiplayer and Skirmish modes, ensuring you’ll be needing to re-evaluate those tactics for warfare against the new combatants. Overall a great add-on which adds and enhances an already fantastic game.--Laurent S Hall.

Product Description

The Clone Campaigns expansion for Star Wars Galactic Battlegrounds is inspired by the large-scale battles in Star Wars: Episode II Attack of the Clones, as well as the classic and expanded Star Wars universe. Clone Campaigns features 14 original single-player combat scenarios, new civilizations, environments, vehicles, and more than 200 new units. By adding the expansion pack to Star Wars Galactic Battlegrounds players can mix and match civilizations from Attack of the Clones with those from the classic Star Wars universe in both skirmish and multiplayer modes.

Clone Campaigns, as with the base game Galactic Battlegrounds, is built upon enhanced engine technology from Ensemble Studios' Age of Kings. The Clone Campaigns expansion pack will feature numerous technical improvements including upgraded shields, power cores, and new effects.

Star Wars Galactic Battlegrounds: Clone Campaigns requires a copy of the retail version of the original game (Star Wars Galactic Battlegrounds) in order to be played.

4.0 out of 5 stars A great add-on 2 Aug 2002
If you'd played Galactic Battlegrounds, you'll love this add-on. With even more vehicles and technologies, as well as the ability to play as the Galactic Republic or the Confederacy, this game becomes even better.
The scaling of objects is still a bit dodgy, but if you can overlook this, this game is fun to play.
Overall, if you're a fan of Star Wars, and especially Episode II, this is for you.

4.0 out of 5 stars A good quality add on 25 Jun 2002
Galactic Battlegrounds:Clone Campaigns is very much more of the same. The game has been tweaked with this expasion however, with several minor alterations to many technologies and units, including the addition of power droids as mobile power sources. Also included for use by the Rebel Alliance is the A-Wing fighter, lighter but able to cause serious damage in numbers.
The Data disk of course, also includes armies of the Old Republic and the Confederacy of Independant Systems, both of which have one unique unit(a Jedi Starfighter for the Republic, a Genosian Warrior for the CIS) some unique research topics and a 7 mission campaign each, though you have to complete the CIS campaign to gain access to the Republic campaign. However, apart from the few unique items they are still identical to the units of the other races, while I don't see much problem with this, other may dislike the uniformity of the races.
It is worthy of note that I actually found myself becoming interested in the (lightly interlinked) plot of the two campaigns something that really none of the somewhat tenously linked campigns of the original achieved. The campaigns themselves are well balanced and never did I think any mission was lost becuase it was unfair, my mistakes were always to blame rather than a failure of mission balancing. Though the AI still makes stupid decisions such as beating waves of it's forces against sections of your defences which are nigh impenetrable to the small numbers it sends- though it puts up a decent fight in other situations.
All in all, this expansion pack really is more of the same, the further baklancing of units is nice, and the new races do manage to have their own style, but as I said earlier, if you disliked the uniformity of the Galactic Battlegrounds forces this doesn't do anything to fix that. If you don't mind that however, this is indeed a very entertaining add on to an already good game.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Add On. 13 Jan 2003
By Astore Stargazer VINE VOICE
After purchasing Galactic battlegrounds I wondered how a game so addictive could possibly be any better, but that was untill I got hold of copy of this add on, which lets you now indulge your star wars appetite in the all new armies from star wars episode 2, and now I just cant play battle grounds without the add on.
Not only does the add on add the epsiode 2 armies to its engine but also it fixes some of the old bugs in the first one and lets you now research even more great technologies giving you a greater star wars feel to your bettle armies. Not all add ons are worth thier money but this is worth every penny, and really completes so much that was lacking from the first one and that wasnt much believe me, but there is so much to try and do here it will keep you coming back for months and months, so many different ways to attack, sea, air or ground assault, or why not send in an amry of your best and most highly trained jedi or sith's, or why not send out your bounty hunters to hunt them down, and when the battle is won you get much satisfaction when you know you have kicked out all others that have tried to muscle in on your turf, and now you have got control of all resources on the planet and then when all your armies are amassed wipe out your enemies with a single strike, a truly wonderful game to play and so much fun and satisfaction gauranteed, a must buy quite simply a must buy, particularly if your getting a little fed up of the main stream first person shooter, this give you a nice and much wanted alternative.
