Content: A potted history of Han Solo, from 'A New Hope' to 'Return of the Jedi'. With some additional information about his back story eg he was brought up by a Wookie. An introduction to the main characters of the Star Wars stories.
Layout: Information text with call out boxes, to add further information, as an aside e.g; 'the death star' and 'bounty hunter'. Illustrated throughout with stills from the films. Starts with a simple index. Ends with a glossary of unusual sci-fi words e.g Sabacc, tentacle. Has a 'I have read this book' tick box at the end.
Text: Level 2 DK reader, simple text with some longer words and sentences. Each new character is introduced with 'This is ...' followed by a short description. Our 5 year old loves to have them read to him, although he can also recognise quite a few high frequency words. A year 1 or year 2 child would need above average reading ability, to read alone. May also suit older kids wanting something more exciting or just different to the scheme books brought home from school.
Favourite Bit: Good length for bedtime story. Found out that Han speaks Shyriiwook (Wookie language). Great reading motivation for any young Star Wars fan.

I bought this book for my 5 year old who is a big star wars fan. This book encourages them to read along (there are some hard words!) but he also enjoys looking at the pictures.

If you have a Star Wars Fan, this is a great book to engage your child in additional reading. Contains colourful pictures, tricky words and a good summary of the story.
