Book Description

31 Dec 2006
Currently writing for Mojo magazine, Mick Wall has been one of Britain’s best-known rock writers for over 25 years. As well as voicing his opinions on television and radio, he is also the author of several best-selling rock biographies. Back in the 1980s, however, Mick Wall was the star writer of Kerrang!, where his memorable, rollercoaster style of journalism helped turn an unfashionable monthly magazine into the world-beating weekly title it is today.

As the magazine celebrates its 25th anniversary this year, here for the first time are collected some of the best Mick Wall interviews and articles, including remarkable encounters with such stars of the era as W. Axl Rose, Jimmy Page, Jon Bon Jovi, Ozzy Osbourne, Ritchie Blackmore and Lars Ulrich, to name just a few. With brand new introductions to each chapter, along the way you will travel to such far-flung rock’n’roll outposts as Los Angeles, New York, Moscow, Rio de Janeiro, Dublin, Berlin… and Ealing (with feeling).

Irreverent, funny, offensive to anyone who ever disliked very loud rock music, and occasionally, against his better judgement, quite serious in its analysis of the most famous people who made that music, this is writing that pulsates with rock’s own juddering rhythms. Hold on tight and enjoy the ride.

5.0 out of 5 stars An absolute classic! 2 Jun 2006
Format:Paperback
For anyone out there who used to read Kerrang! magazine during its golden age - the 1980s - this is an absolute must! The magazine had many personality writers back then but Mick Wall was by far the most outstanding talent. So it's a real pleasure to have so many of his best stories from those days all collected into one stunning volume. Even more interesting, he has written brand new introductions to each story, so now we can learn what was really going on behind the scenes! For those of you unlucky to have not read this stuff first time around, I envy you because this is your chance to sample the master at work in his youthful prime as he tackles Jimmy Page, Axl Rose, Jon Bon Jovi and so many others in a way they've never been written about since. And best of all it's FUNNY! A real lost treasure for rock fans of all persuasions, do yourselves a favour and get it.

5.0 out of 5 stars A collection by an expert journalist and rock fan 6 Sep 2007
By Midwest Book Review - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
Star Trippin': The Best of Mick Wall 1985-91 is an anthology of some of the best interviews and articles by British rock-n-roll writer Mick Wall, who currently lends his pen to "Mojo" magazine. Among the personal encounters enshrined in Star Trippin' are meetings with W. Axle Rose, Jimmy Page, Jon Bon Jovi, Ozzy Osbourne, Ritchie Blackmore, Lars Ulrich, and more. Brand-new introductions to each chapter punctuate this 80's (and early 90's) rock-n-roll tour from Los Angeles to New York, Moscow, Rio de Janeiro, Dublin, and Berlin. A collection by an expert journalist and rock fan, for rock fans, offering a unique glimpse into the personalities who made the legendary music. Highly recommended.
