Amazon.co.uk Review

Elite Force on the PC was a Trektastic first-person shooter set in the Voyager universe. The PS2 version is a direct port of the original game and unfortunately it's lost something in translation. The story plays like an episode of the hit show. The ill-fated USS Voyager answers a distress call only to find out that it's a carefully prepared trap which transports them to an alien ship graveyard from which there appears to be no escape. Their predicament forces Voyager's command crew to create the Hazard Team, a specialist squad charged with the task of exploring the other ships stranded in the mysterious vortex and discovering a way home.

This is standard first-person shooter fare with a Star Trek twist. You take on the role of Alex (or Alexandra) Munroe and get to wander about various sci-fi backdrops with ever increasing firepower. The story is well done and really feels like being in an episode of Star Trek and the weapons are imaginative enough to keep you interested. There's the usual array of puzzles along the way, some surprises and you get to take on The Borg. But what is disappointing in this PS2 version is that there isn't anything really new about it. Graphically it's a shadow of its former PC self with the backgrounds looking pixilated and washed out and the load times are interminable. The enemy AI is also less than stellar with quite a few putting up less fight than a bag full of Tribbles… on vallium.

Basically the PC version was so immersive that this console adaptation just doesn't do it justice; it's not bad, it just doesn't set your phaser to stun. FPS fans will find that the genre has moved on too much for Elite Force to make any kind of impact and it's really only going to appeal to true blue Star Trek fans who will probably already have played it to death on the PC. --Kristen Bowditch

Product Description

Based on the PC original, Star Trek Voyager: Elite Force casts the player as a member of the Hazard Team, an elite emergency response unit that must regain control of the Voyager after a band of alien marauders has taken over. It includes voice talent from the TV series, utilizes real set layouts in its detailed environments, and offers a rogue's gallery of alien species, including the Borg, Scavengers, and Hirogen. The game offers both single-player and team missions.

5.0 out of 5 stars A totally unique Star Trek game... 10 Nov 2001
Well what can I say. I own every Star Trek game made for the PC, but have never tried one like this before. I admittedly have only played the PC version of this game but it made a bold statement for the rest of it's genre, both Star Trek games and First Person shooters.
By placing the player in the role of a completely new character the game allows you to write your own story to an extent, guiding the outcome of the game. For example the choice of whether or not to rescue your Commanding officer Lt. Foster from the mechanical Borg alters the end result a great deal. If you do he returns later, if not you earn the resentment of your teammates and the command of the team. Which brings onto the next point. The game is based around Voyagers Hazard team, and this is waht they are, a team. The AI is simply beautiful, team mates follow you around, give fire support and search for items and control panels if you are taking too long.

Overall an absouloutly amazing game for Trekkies and gamers alike, a must have for Star Trek or First Person fans.

4.0 out of 5 stars An ok game. 10 Jun 2003
Although many people say that this game is rubbish, and down right boring i dont agree. yes the graphics are a bit on the bad side (a bit boxy) but the game itsef is good. The story line is that of something u would find on a ST script, and u certainly get into the game. It doesn't have to be for die hard fans either, as all you really do is shoot ure enemies down. The story line could be a bit longer though, as i completed it in about three days and i was playing that on and off.

I dont need to explain the plot as my other collegues have already done that. Altogether, if u just want to shoot and be shot at this is the game for you. (its not gruesome though)!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great! 14 Nov 2001
By A Customer
It is a great pc to ps2 conversion, and combines the tournament parts of q3 with the storyline of metal gear solid. It is based on Star Trek Voyager - Janeway gives the word for a special force to go on away missions, and generally defeng voyager. There are a number of original and highly futuristic weapons, which help you destroy the Borg and species 8472.

In conclusion, i would highly recommend this game to all, especially those interested in Star Trek.

The best shoot em up on the PS2!
