Star Trek Voyager: Complete Sixth Season [DVD] [1996] [Region 1] [US Import] [NTSC]

This sixth season of Voyager is my favorite of the seven, as it moves above and beyond the typical storytelling style that has burdened the series in earlier seasons.
While there are a few less 'action' based episodes, there are plenty of situations where the characters really shine. The two that grew the most this season are without a doubt The Doctor and Seven of Nine.
The Doctor has a trilogy of great episodes. In 'Tinker, Tenor, Doctor, Spy', he has uncontrollable daydreams. 'Virtuoso' sees him become a popular performer to a race who is new to music. In 'Life Line', he has a chance to meet and treat his creator, who is not exactly happy to see him.
Seven of Nine has much to contend with from her past as a Borg drone. In 'Survival Instinct', she recalls a time when she and several drones were severed from the collective for several hours. She must also deal with her growing human emotions; specifically her maternal instincts when she encounters Borg children in 'Collective', and the parents of one of these children in 'Child's Play'.
There are several more episodes that are truly exceptional.
'Equinox Part II' concludes the crews conflict with a rogue Starfleet vessel.
'Barge of the Dead' is a very powerful inner struggle for B'Elana as she is forced to face her Klingon heritage.
'Riddles' is a chance to see Tuvok outside of his usual Vulcan mannerisms.
'One Small Step' gives us an insight into Star Trek history when Voyager encounters the wreckage of an early Mars probe.
'Pathfinder' chronicles the efforts of TNG's Reg Barclay as he tries to make contact with Voyager from Earth.
'Fair Haven' introduces us to a charming Irish village created on the holodeck.
'Blink of an Eye' is a facinating story where Voyager observes a planet where time moves much quicker and they observe the evolution of an entire civilisation in a matter of days.
'Tsunkatse' is a chance to see Seven of Nine placed into personal combat as she is forced to fight in a violent television show.
In 'Good Shepherd', we meet three mis-fits in the crew, and Captain Janeway decides to take them under her wing to help them adjust.
In 'Live Fast and Prosper', the crew discover that con artists have impersonated them to steal from other species.
'Muse' is a clever take on theatre when B'Elana crash lands on a world during a Shakespereian time period.
'Fury' deals with the return of Kes in a fit of revenge.
'The Haunting of Deck Twelve' involes the invasion of a sinister non-coporial alien entity that takes control of the ship.
Lastly, 'Unimatrix Zero Part I' sees Voyager face the Borg once again as they discover a small number of drones who can return to an individule state during regeneration.

To conclude, a very worthwhile season. The seventh season also carries on the trends of this season, albeit with a rather rushed conclusion to the series. Still a strong season however. If you didn't like Voyager early on, give this season a try and you may be surprised.

Star Trek Voyager is a science fiction television show that's based in the 24th century. This is the sixth out of seven seasons in the saga, and this boxed set contains all 26 episodes in the series.

Captain Kathryn Janeway, who is the commanding officer of the Federation Starship U.S.S. Voyager, must find a way home for her ship and crew, after they are transported against their will across the galaxy to the Delta Quadrant. Unless they find a short cut such as a wormhole, they face the prospect of spending seventy odd years traveling through unknown and often dangerous space.

It's safe to assume that I'm not only a sci-fi fan, but a fan of Star Trek and all its various incarnations (in particular Voyager). However, I do feel that this sixth season of Voyager is perhaps a bit weaker than others, especially when compared to its own previous fifth, and later seventh seasons. Don't get me wrong as season six has some brilliantly entertaining episodes such as the opening "Equinox Part 2," "Tinker, Tenor, Doctor, Spy," "The Voyager Conspiracy," and "The Haunting of Deck Twelve." But (for me at least) there were a few really disappointing episodes this time around. Such as "Spirit Folk" which was unoriginal and unimaginative. And "Alice" where a small ship has a mind of its own. But in general even other episodes seemed to be lacking that little bit of shine that we've come to expect. Thankfully however, the brilliant episodes I've mentioned really are good, and tend to make up for the other disappointments.

Highlights of this season include the holographic doctor being transported to the Alpha Quadrant once again (the first time being in the "Message in a Bottle" episode in season 4,) but this time around he is attempting to save the life his creator. Con artists exploit Voyager's name for their own personal gain. A former crew member returns full of anger and fury, with plans for Voyager's destruction. Seven of Nine also creates some interesting situations when she starts to see conspiracies everywhere. And finally the Pathfinder project sees Starfleet command contact Voyager, thanks to the help of "The Next Generations" Reg Barclay.

For me, one of the greatest things about Star Trek Voyager will always be the cast and the characters that they play. In the case of this show they are always in exceptional form, ensuring some very realistic and likeable crew members. Some good special effects have been put to use in this season, which further enhance the episodes.

While if you're not a fan of sci-fi or Star Trek, the chances are you won't really enjoy Voyager, but if you are a fan, then it's a great show to check out as it offers so much to the viewer.

Voyager really can be an involving program that you will grow to care about, but I would always recommend with any series based show starting at the beginning and working your way up to this point. While many episodes are shown on television stations, owning the boxed sets offer a number of advantages including being able to progress through the episodes at your own pace.

Voyager Season 6 contains some of the best episodes of Voyager and the Star Trek franchise. The Plots and stories are something to be made golden, for the CGI, the emotion, and acting. To me, Season 6 is Voyager's best season, it contains episodes action-packed, emotional, and deffinitely a taste of ever-so smart Science Fiction writing. I would advise anyone to buy this DVD Boxset. After the Season is over, you will go back and watch it all over again. Amazon gave me the exact date when I would expect the arrival of this Boxset and wouldn't you know it, I got it that exact date. I am also very greatfull that the price is lower than many others from other stores. Amazon's price is atleased £10 cheaper than most other deals, a great perchase!
