Book Description

19 July 2012
After the disastrous events in the Bajoran system, Captain Benjamin Sisko must confront the consequences of the recent choices he has made in his life. At the same time, the United Federation of Planets and its Khitomer Accords allies have come to the brink of war with the Typhon Pact. While factions within the Pact unsuccessfully used the recent gestures of goodwill-the opening of borders and a joint Federation-Romulan exploratory mission-to develop quantum-slipstream drive, they have not given up their goals. Employing a broad range of assets, from Romulus to Cardassia, from Ab-Tzenketh to Bajor, they embark on a dangerous new plan to acquire the technology they need to take control of the Alpha and Beta Quadrants. While UFP President Bacco and Romulan Praetor Kamemor work feverishly to reestablish peace, Captains Sisko, Jean-Luc Picard, and Ro Laren stand on the front lines of the conflict...even as a new danger threatens the Bajoran wormhole as it once more becomes a flashpoint of galactic history.

4.0 out of 5 stars Deep Space Nine returns 27 Dec 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This book along with its predecessor brings the Deep Space Nine crew up to date with events in The Next Generation timeline. The story also includes the crew of the Enterprise and the return of The Dominion. I felt that the story lacked a little depth in some areas but that along with its predecessor hints at some interesting events in the Deep Space Nine timeframe of which we are not yet aware. I'm glad to see that whilst we haven't had the books the back story has been thought about and preserved.

You have to have read Plagues Of Night to appreciate this as it is an essential continuation of the Star Trek universe. Well written with sub stories and interesting characters. A masterpiece of Sci Fi writing

3.0 out of 5 stars Good pot boiler 20 Oct 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
While it is not Hugo material, it is good for a bit of light reading.
It doesn't tax the mind but on the other hand does not cause the eyelids to slam shut.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sisko gets some proper attention! 15 Oct 2012
Format:Mass Market Paperback|Verified Purchase
If you're a DS9 fan as I am, you'll be pleased to hear that Sisko is one of the main characters in this and the previous novel (Plagues of Night) and it's a real pleasure to see him and his story get some proper attention at last. Without giving anything away, it was good to see his journey progressing and one phase of his life coming to an end. I'm looking forward to see how his story developes in the future. Great also to see other DS9 characters, especially Kira, Odo and of course Cassidy Yates, in these books.

Otherwise the story of the Typhon Pact, the Andorians and the Romulans moves along and brings us to another crunch point. So many old faces make an appearance, you'll not be disappointed.

I've always enjoyed the author's epic writing style, especially in the DS9 relaunch books, and it's good to read more of his work here. I've always felt taht he understands the DS9 world very well and I hope that he gets to play in the DS9 universe again in teh near future. Hope you enjoy these books as much as I have.

Raise the Dawn is the second half of a duology, and the seventh entry in the Typhon Pact thread of Star Trek fiction. It focusses mostly on characters from Deep Space Nine as they deal with the repercussions of the events of Plagues of Night.

I'm aware that a number of Trek fans don't like David R George III's writing style, which makes this book read more of an epic tale than a close, character development piece, but I enjoy the tales he tells in this pair of books and found there to be plenty of character moments along with the action and politics.

This feels like it's a summation of all the Typhon Pact books so far, but it's far from the end of the thread (there's one more coming later this year at least), but it brings a number of ongoing plot points to a conclusion.

I've very much enjoyed this couple of novels and looks forward to more from George.
