Fun, for a while 10 Feb 2007
Fun:
Got this with high hopes for a fun 3 dimensional shoot-em up, and I wasn't disappointed at first.

The main gripes that I have are with the length of the game and the limited replay value.

It only took a couple of days to complete and, with a couple of exceptions, all of the missions consist of doing pretty much the same thing.

The vast majority of the game is spent going round and round in circles shooting until they're dead, which, whilst not a bad thing in itself, does get a little repetative after about 5 missions.

Graphically it's ok, though obviously doesn't push the 360 at all, though the voice acting is a joy.

The choice of ships is good, but like the other reviews say, you can only play as Klingon, Romulan or Borg in the highly disappointing multiplayer.

The multiplayer maps are just so ridiculously small! The battles on average last about 30 seconds, since all the players are virtually on top of each other from the start. There's very little tactical play to be had, which since this is touted as a tactical game, takes quite a bit of the fun out of it.

Overall, it's good fun for a quick weekend, especially if you're a Trekkie, but it's long term appeal is hampered by the repetative solo game and the pointless multiplayer.

Fun:
first off, i'm a trekker, so trek games always excite me when i hear a new one is coming out. this game had a lot of hype, so i expected something huge when i first put the disc into my console.

now, the pc version has been slammed pretty hard, thats why i opted for the console version, it sounded like the safer option, since i had a terrible let down for the PS2 Encounters game ( i have a review about how bad it was, if anyone is interested) and couldn't handle two bad trek games in one week.

this game is the best console trek game i have played ever. yes, i know it has a few flaws, but overall, i'm impressed. the graphics are good, the sound fx are authentic and i like the voice overs of the captains.

the downside is that the camera IS very tricky to get used to, like the previous reviewer mentioned. all it takes is practice though.

also, the ships do handle a bit sluggish, but come on people, these are starships 500+ meters in length. huge things should FEEL huge, no? this isn't shuttle craft wars after all.

i can understand why the PC guys feel cheated. without a good pad, this game will be unplayable it think. the joysticks are essential.

overall, though, i like this, and since there are hordes of FPS games out there and on the horizon, this game is a nice refreshing alternative. besides, if you really think this game is complicated, try Starfleet Acadamy on the pc. now THAT is a tough game to play.

Fun:
Now going past all the strategy games, and the odd FPS game, star trek hasn't gone that far in the gaming world. With the idea of a game that takes you through periods in Trek history, like the era of Kirk, and Picard, and giving you there period vessels, like the Constitution class, and the Galaxy class is a great idea, but like most people think its a bit flawed.

The array of vessels is quite impressive, from NX-01 to the Sovereign class vessel of the star trek movies, like First Contact. The enemy vessels aswell are very well detailed, and unique in there own way.

Not alot of games go without flaws, but this has a few that need to be thought over (to late now, but future games can learn from mistakes), the missions are the same!, even for a trekkie this game will be boring, and to add to this the combat system doesn't work for me, its a bit boring also, (you seeing a boring pattern?) slow moving ships, this isn't midway were you can planely see the ships moving a relativly fast. Legacy however has a slow combat system, and a sow overall game concept, apart from the jump warps, which redeem it slightly, but theres so many flaws!

Great Idea, however the game as a whole is boring and slow, but some small moments in the game make it fun, you just have to look past the slow combat to see the fun!
