Star Trek - The Next Generation Movie Collection [DVD]

The Star trek -TNG collection comes hot on the heels of the original movies released a few months back. the original movies had a lot of negativiity attached to the transfers,some i felt were unwarranted but how does the next gen fare on blu ray ?

Well for the most part vary well. the 4 films vary in quality which i'll get to in a minute but as a whole the transfers are nice and both PQ and AQ are a clear step up from the dvd's

ST-Generations (PQ 4/5) THIS IS PROBABLY THE BEST LOOKING OUT OF ALL THE FILMS IN THE SET. LOVELY DEEP CONTRAST,GORGEOUS COLOURS AND CLARITY. THOUGH THIS IS THE FIRST FILM MADE, IT ACTUALLY LOOKS THE BEST..GREAT TRANSFER.

ST-First contact (PQ 3/5) FC IS BY NATURE MOSTLY A DARK FILM NOT JUST IN STORY BUT BY THE SETTINGS ETC..A LOT OF THE FILM IS AT NIGHT OR ON THE SHIP AS OPPOSED TO A LOT OF OUTDOORS STUFF IN GENERATIONS. QUALITY IS FOR THE MOST PART VERY DECENT BUT IS DEF A STEP DOWN FROM THE SCINTILATING GENERATIONS QUALITY.

ST-Insurrection (PQ 3.5/5) THIS IS ANOTHER NICE TRANSFER AND UNLIKE FC INSURRECTION BENEFITS FROM LOTS OF OUTDOORS SCENES GIVING THE FILM VERY GOOD CLARITY AND SHARPNESS COUPLED WITH GORGEOUS COLOURS. I DIDNT THINK THIS WAS QUITE AS STELLAR AS GENERATIONS BUT COMES VERY CLOSE.

ST-Nemesis (PQ 2.5/5) EASILY THE WORSE TRANSFER OF THE BUNCH AND CONSIDERING IT'S THE MOST RECENT ALL THE MORE SURPRISING. LIKE FC NEMESIS IS A DARK FILM BY NATURE SO THERES NOT A LOT OF EYE CANDY TO SHOW OFF HERE. CLARITY IS IMPROVED OVER THE DVD FOR SURE BUT I WAS DISAPPOINTED WITH THIS ONE. ONE AREA THOUGH THIS EXCELS IS IN IT BOMBASTIC S/TRACK WHICH IS THE BEST S/TRACK OF ALL THE FILMS

Each film has pretty much all the features from the 2 disc dvd's with added HD features to so this is very extensive indeed. there is a bonus 5th disc which houses some additional HD featurrettes but these come off largely as cast offs to the other supplements and arent nearly as interesting as the original movies blu ray bonus disc which had the captains table doc.

All in all this is a good set..PQ for the most part is very good..what with exhaustive supplemental material you really cant go wrong

MAKE IT SO !!

Anyone buying the box set is obviously a fan of star Trek and knows what to expect from the films themselves. The American release has received nothing but praise for picture quality and sound, so I can only presume it will be the same in PAL.

For me First Contact is the best of all the films in this set.

This boxset brings all of the next generation star trek movies, fully remastered and beautifully displayed in a sleek slip case.
As a trekkie through and through, this purchase was purely to upgrade my collection (the boxset replaced 4 VHS and a couple DVDs) but once you rewatch these films in widescreen with 5.1 it really gives them the impact they deserve.
A must for trekkies, and a great idea for fans of jj's reboot who want to venture into the wonderful world of Star Trek.
