Before George Lucas made billions by keeping the rights to associated toys, books and associated merchandise of Star Wars this Tech manual came out for the committed Star Trek fan in 1975. Based on the Original series this manual is a blueprint for all subsequent publications revolving around the Star Trek universe.

In this we get a lot of technical data on many facets of the 60's show. It's all here: Federation seals, articles of the Federation, starship registries, inner workings of hardware, diagrams of seen and unseen parts of a starship and even patterns to the original uniforms.

A lot of fan based literature could do much worse than follow this template. One of the first and one of the best.

This book expands (unofficially and non-canonally) into the Star Trek fleet covering the barely scratched surface of the movie era. An excellent book that only falters on the lack of true techy detail relative to books on more modern trek.

I found the book informative, and easy to follow and get into. It gives an interesting insight to parts of the ship that isn't shown in the series, and
'behind the [fictional] scenes' technically, as well as other types of fleets of Federation military ships. It's an ideal companion to the blueprints of the original ST; USS Enterprise.

not very good its only from the point of view of the 60s and in star trek we have gone way to far forward for it to be interesting
