Amazon.co.uk Review

Volume 3 in the Star Trek Fan Collective series focuses on the show's resident deity, Q, played with indignant mischief by John De Lancie. While previous Fan Collectives have taken votes to select which episodes around a certain theme would be included, Q makes things easy (the character never made things easy) by simply including all 12 episodes (two are double-length) in which he appeared. And because Q was especially fond of tormenting Captain Picard (Patrick Stewart) and his crew, most of the episodes are from The Next Generation, including that series' first episode, "Encounter at Farpoint". Subsequent episodes are "Hide and Q" in which the crew plays a deadly game; "Q Who," in which a temper tantrum throws the Enterprise into its first-ever encounter with the Borg (also included on the Fan Collective: Borg set); "Deja Q," in which the character becomes a normal human; "Qpid," in which Q tries to play matchmaker by turning Picard into Robin Hood; "True Q" in which Q reveals the truth about a mysterious young woman; "Tapestry," in which Picard shares a near-death experience with the godlike thorn in his side; and the series finale, "All Good Things…" Q also made brief stops in the first season of Deep Space Nine ("Q Less") and in Voyager. In "Death Wish," Q tries to help Captain Janeway (Kate Mulgrew) recover her male crew members after an encounter with another member of the Q Continuum, "The Q and the Grey," in which Q wants Janeway to bear his child; and the final season's "Q2," in which Q's son arrives to cause chaos, such as removing Seven of Nine's (Jeri Ryan) clothes. As with previous Fan Collective sets, the only new features (and in this case there are no other features) are text commentary on three episodes by Michael Okuda and Denise Okuda. --David Horiuchi

Q-Tastic 5 Oct 2007
Format:DVD
after purchasing the borg fan collection on I wandered if they would release a q-best off, and they did. Q Is one of the best characters from STNG always playing god and games with TNG crew it was him that introduced us too the borg which is on this set. I wasnt too keen on the voyager episodes which he was in it I felt they were running out of ideas and lacked the spark that picard/q relationship had. But overall i found this set value was for money and brought back many fond memories of some quality startrek episodes. having seen some boring episodes of startrek ive found these fan box sets really good as they have some of the best starrek episodes and at good value saving you too buy the series box sets. time travel/borg and klingon collective are also available. There are no real features on this disc set it would of been great too see a interview with John de Lancie (q) bud sadly not there some text commentarys on this disc but thats it. any 4.9/5

Quite Entertaining 2 Jan 2009
Format:DVD
I must first start off my review by admitting that I mainly purchased it at the recommendation from one of my former bosses who recommended these episodes to me because he wanted to help. He wanted me to see the benefits and rewards of doing things unconventional to stand out. After watching this collection I am glad I did(via the tapestry episode where Picard experiences a near death experience. Truthfully my former superior's recommendation and John De Lancie's superb acting that I observed in my first viewing of the collection was the reason why I watched this whole q collection because he really brought to life the "godlike" q character and showed compassion and humanity in someone who I thought was the villian. There are 12 exciting episodes in this collection. Admittedly when you start watching them and you get the 4 disc cd set that I did you may end up watching just 1-2 cds max a day depending on your schedule. One of the episodes that stands out for me is Q2 because one of John De Lancie's actual sons in real life stars with him in that episode. Due to John De Lancie playing a very powerful and godlike character I would highly recommend you watch the discs in order to understand better what is going on in the mind of "Q" You see various sides of the Q character in the collection such as "Q" in love and relationships in episodes such as "The Q and the Grey", Q serving as mentoring and adviser in "True Q"
Q as judge and decider of fate: Encounter at Farpoints 1+2
Q shocked by his "punishment" being a human and having to humble himself by admitting to needing assistance: "Deja Q"
Q playing matchmaker and desiring to understand Picards fascination with a certain love interest including his own fascination with her :"Qpid"
Q questioning his own beliefs about conformity when another q desires suicide in: Death Wish
Overall this was a good cd set about a godlike character who strengthens the members of the startrek crew on a spiritual and emotional level by putting them through a series of tests that teach them information but John De Lancie's Q character ends up learning some lessons himself from the crew as well along the way. A quality dvd set by quality actors especially with John De Lancie's character injecting life into these series. I honestly wasn't sure what I was getting myself into when I went ahead and bought the dvds at a superior officer's recommendation despite not having watched the whole startrek series myself but now I can honestly say that I am glad that I bought these dvds and I feel that you will be glad too if you are still in the process of contemplating.
