Adding to the layers of ambiguity about Earth's (read: the producers') position over being at war, was the "outing" of two recurring characters as rebel activists. Lest we forget the homely/spiritual side of the Captain, time was spent with a future version of Jake, with his father (Brock Peters), and on the nature of his role as "the Emissary." Avery Brooks worked behind the camera a couple of times, but this year the surprise was LeVar Burton directing five shows. There was still time for comedy: the Ferengi warped back to Roswell in 1947 and Bashir played James Bond. But the year will be remembered predominately for its violence. One of the episodes Burton directed had its fight scenes drastically cut, while the series as a whole won an Emmy for its space battle effects.--Paul Tonks

It all starts coming together.,

This review is from: Star Trek: Deep Space Nine - Season 4 [DVD] [1995] (DVD)
This season is one of the best star trek seasons there are, and considering there have been 28 seasons in 5 series's thats quite an achievement. It includes very memorable episodes including Way of a Warrior when a certain klingon officer joins the series and the very funny Little Green Men. And at the end Odo gets... well you'll have to buy it and find out.

This review is from: Star Trek - Deep Space Nine - Series 4 (Slimline Edition) [DVD] (DVD)
Ds9 kicks off in feature film style in season 4 with "The Way of The Warrior" parts 1 and 2 interlinked. This was really well done. Putting every character including almost every guest character into the hole thing and all the characters linking the story together. Worf from "The Next Generation" makes his first appearance as a main character in this episode all the way to the final in season 7. The battle sqequences and interlinking of all the alien races and characters make this 2 parter work so well. Following this are 2 excellent episodes "The Visitor" with Jake as an old man in the future reflecting on the past that took his father. A very emotional episode indeed and the actors can be very proud of their work. The writers too. "Hippocratic Oath" sees Miles and Julian captured by Jem Hadar and both characters are in disagreement as to how to deal with a complex situation. On disc 2 "Indiscretion follows" on and is a very unlightly combination of focusing on Kira and Du Kat being partners to rescue some long lost crash victims. It gets more complex as the episode progreses. Nice to see ds9 using outdoor locations like the desert which was really convincing of an alien crash site in this episode.
"Little Green Men" Is a very imaginative funny episode involving Quark, Nog and Rom somhow being transported back in time to Roswell in 1947 - You know this is the real truth about Roswell, the proof is in the episode. "Starship Down" put me on edge when I saw it first as it seems 1 or more of the main character might have died becuase of the devastation done to the Defiant by the Dominion. "Sword Of Kahless" sees Jadzia, Worf and Kor go in search for the legendary Sword only to have other parties purse it too. Thers a James Bond style episode "Our Man Bashir" whcih interesting and entertaining seeing the main cast members and Garak play roles or maybe there alter egos? in the Holsuite. Rom forms A Union in "Bar Association" which I like now where as in previous years I would have overlooked this kind of episode a lot. A ferengi Episode involving mostly Rom, and other Ferengi and Lita. A lot of credit should go to Max Grodenchik for playing Rom. From the episode Rom suffers a bad ear ache "Brother am I still standing?" then keels over unconcious. "Lita to Quark, "Arent you going to do something?" Quark replies, " Yes I am, Im going to dock his pay" Rom tries to form a Workers Union. On disc 6 is "To The Death" You never thought youd see the federation and the Dominion team up, but they do for this episode and Wyoun makes his debut in ds9. Th actor actually played a 1 off character in season 1 and severeal other characters inlcuding Brunt and Shran in Enterprise. "Body Parts" sees Quark having to auction off his body parts in the second last episode of the season, Garaks in this 1 too. Then "Broken Link" is the final of season 4 and ends the Season well with but with Odo in trouble. There are slightly more extras in season 4 than seasons 1-5. They are "Charting New Territory:DS9 Season 4", "Crew Dossier:LT Worf", "Michael Westmores Aliens Season 4", "DS9 Sketchbook: John Eaves" "Bob Blackmans Designs of the Future", "Jim Martin Sketchbook", "DS9 Chronicles", "PHOTO GALLERY" And as always semi hidden section 31 hidden files/easter eggs to find and click on involving quick few minute inteviews with cast members or producers and artists of the show.

This has to be the best season of DS9, with it's strong scripts and ever dark feeling this paved the way for the other seasons more darker tone; the best episode being Hard Time where the character of the chief goes through torment and shows the level of acting in the cast; one to watch
