Very accurate model, although I thought it was snap assembly but that's not a problem. Lack of paints disappointing but that's probably normal, this was my first model kit.

Bought this to supplement my non-clear version. 18 Sep 2013

I already owned the opaque fiber-optic version of the DS9 model. I bought this one to compare and to get my hands on the clear Defiant model. I try to light all my Star Trek models and this one seems like it should work out well (I haven't built it yet). I have worked on the Defiant model though and it is lacking some detail, but that is to be expected for a small 1/2500 model. I wish it had come with some decals for the defiant though. I'm going to have to try printing some of my own.

Not 1:2500 18 May 2013
By Mikal Krall - Published on Amazon.com
Durability:    Educational:    Fun:
The official diameter for Deep Space Nine is 1451.82 meters, which is approximately 57158.26772 inches, which is 22.863307088 inches when scaled down to 1:2500. If this were actually 1:2500 scale, the model would be at least 22, almost 23 inches in diameter. Instead it is the same scale model as is listed everywhere else as being 16 inches in diameter, which is closer to being 1:3300. Technically it would be at least 17 inches in diameter if it were 1:3300 scale, but 16 inches is close enough.

Why does this difference in scale matter? Because nearly every other Star Trek starship model is available in 1:2500 scale. Not 1:3300. There are even some in 1:1000, and 1:3200. But there are far more available in 1:2500 scale than any other size. Not to mention, 22 inches versus 16 inches is a massive scale difference. The 1:2500 model Enterprise D just does not look right next to a 1:3300 scale model of DS9.

Disappointing, but it's the only option right now. At least until models become available to print your own using 3D printers.

The model was pretty big but I liked it regardless. It was fun to put to together and a good model for beginners.
