After the death of Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry in 1991, writers/producers Rick Berman and Michael Piller carried on the Star Trek franchise with the second spinoff television series, Deep Space Nine. Considered by many to be the best of the Star Trek spinoffs, Deep Space Nine broke with its predecessors' peripatetic tradition by centering the action in a single location--a space station orbiting the war-torn planet of Bajor--thus allowing for a non-episodic story arc and sophisticated character development. The series also broke new ground with Star Trek's first African-American ship commander, Captain Benjamin Sisko (Avery Brooks), who presided over a diverse group of crew members that included an alien shapeshifter, Odo (Rene Auberjonois), among its numbers. Dark, imaginative, and compelling, Deep Space Nine is presented in its entirety with this seven-series collection.

Bought this set on a blind buy (loving all other star trek already) when amazon reduced all their star trek sets. While I would love to review the series here, I am unable to as I noticed a large majority of the discs had significant scratches upon them as a result of the wholly inadequate budget packaging provided. Furthermore upon watching the pilot episode, the final 25 minutes of the episode froze and then skipped on a number of occasions leaving the episode unwatchable.
I have contacted amazon for a refund, and hope that will go smoothly. Have chosen not to swap for another copy as the fault is with the production process, and other reviews on this product seem to experience the same problems, so not risking it again.
Simply - Don't buy this product, seems to be something of a gamble as to whether it will come in watchable condition. Shall be purchasing season 1 in the slimline cases as soon as my refund is processed.

I like the series, I got it at a really good price, I even like the cheap & cheerful packaging (you have to be very gentle to avoid scratches but it takes up a lot less space) & am only a bit miffed at the whole set being in 4:3 format... But the Amazon description was clearly for 49 discs & they sent me a set with only 48 stamped on the outside. So I do have the whole series but without the bonus DVD available in other sets.

Before somebody spits out there tea on there keyboard. This review isn't so much for the TV Series (QUALITY BTW!) it is for the DVD Boxset itself!
A few years ago. I started noticing a new design of DVD Boxset being released. It appeared to be cheaper in design to past ones. I initially saw them with the newer season's of The Simpsons boxset. You would have the card surround, and their would be no plastic cases within, but a tacky 'free newspaper giveaway style' slot that you slide the dvd into when you have finished watching them.
I could put up with these although i hated the look and design of them.
But then a couple of weeks back, i decided to sell off all of my 'Simpsons' DVDs on Ebay. As everyone does when they list there items on Ebay, i checked each boxset individually to make sure their were no scratched on the discs. I take care of all my DVDs, and hate it when they get scratched. Not only does it look dreadful, but it also results in 'stopping/starting and juddering to the viewing experience'. All of my earlier boxsets were completely unscratched. Were talking boxsets i have had for years and watched time and time again. As soon as i hit these card DVD slot style ones, i noticed nearly all of the discs had straightline scratches where the discs are put in.
A couple of days ago i purchased the vast majority of Star Trek Boxsets, namely TOS, TNG & DS9. To my absolute horror i noticed this horrible card slot design boxset's were being used for all of them. Having checked the disks within the boxset. It's a good value boxset, but due to the nature of the format it comes in (Cardboard cases) the seems to be some skipping issues in about 5% of episodes and annoying this is generally at the end of the episode. If you are not too bothered by this as I'm not, then get this boxset, You can live with it. However if you are thinking of it as a gift, look else where as they will be disappointed.

If your a big fan of the whole star trek universe then surely you must add this to your collection. I found that the box was small and ideal size considering it held all the discs. Much easier for your dvd shelf, so no horrible bulky packaging. Was nice to finally have the entire seasons on dvd as my vhs tapes were starting to wear out. I would definitely recommend buying all the star trek series, especially if the others come in the same size box. Brilliant stuff

nicely presented, but as others have said already, expect some disc marks from new. many people have commented on disc skipping, and yes, they will do this on certain budget players. for example, my sub £100 toshiba skips and crashes to the main menu, but my panasonic blu ray player copes perfectly. we all know that you can get disc incompatibilities but these discs are extremely fussy, so if you have a cheap/old player, or you know that your player is disc fussy, avoid this set and get the slimline packs instead.

This is a bargain price for the full set of episodes from every series. The picture quality is not the best but does not spoil the enjoyment. A couple of discs were a little reluctant to play in one of my DVD drives but was OK in another.

Good set of series, DVD's need a good clean!
Ok cheap way of getting all 7 series, just a shame the DVDs are all dirty with little black bits stuck to them that literally need scrapping off before they can be played. Read more

The complete series of DS9, packaged in a nice presentation box and also containing lots of extras at the end of each season, I just wish they'd release these on Blu-Ray.
