Amazon.co.uk Review

If you want just one Star Trek DVD set in your collection, Star Trek Fan Collective: Time Travel may be it. Of the 15 time-bending episodes on the affordably priced four-disc set, two are perhaps the most acclaimed in franchise history: the Original Series' "The City on the Edge of Forever" (written by sci-fi giant Harlan Ellison) and Deep Space Nine's "Trials and Tribble-ations" (in which the DS9 crew is cleverly edited into the original crew's "The Troubles with Tribbles" episode). The other selections are the Original Series' "Tomorrow Is Yesterday"; The Next Generation's "Yesterday's Enterprise," "Cause and Effect," the two-part "Time's Arrow," and the series finale "All Good Things..."; DS9's "Little Green Men"; and Voyager's two-part "Year of Hell" and series finale "Endgame."

One could quibble with the episode selection. Because the Fan Collectives were compiled by vote from fans, Voyager's series finale "Endgame" was included even though it was also on Fan Collective: Borg. It would have been nice to remove that duplicate and substitute the acclaimed DS9 two-parter "Past Tense," which would have been a better representation of that series than "Little Green Men" (in which the Ferengi travel to Roswell) and "Tribble-ations," both of which are deserving selections but considerably lighter in tone than the series as a whole. Also, Enterprise isn't represented at all. --David Horiuchi

The bredth of the episodes coming form the original series, next generation, ds9 and voyager is great however the volume of episodes offered in the set seems a little stingy.

There are actually only 3 discs of episodes here. The 4th disc only contains the Voyager finale episode 'endgame'. Whilst this is a fanatastic feature film worthy episode it is actually a borg themed episode with far less emphasis being put on the time travel aspects of the episode. Endgame is included on the Borg Collective DVD set so to also include it here seems a little like being shortchanged as most people interested in these themed boxsets (as an alternative to buying the whole star trek series') are surey likely to buy more than one of the collective sets.

The extra disc could then have been used to include episodes omitted from this boxset, like Voyager's 'Future's End' where a timeship crashes in the 1960s and Voyager ends up in 1996 trying to retrieve it. There are also some good Enterprise series time travel episodes that would have completed this set very well, meaning that the set would be the only collective to have episodes from all 5 series. Surely a fitting feature of the time travel set.

I find it hard to believe that no other episodes besides than the 3-discs-worth here (omitting the Endgame one) were voted for by the fans at all. A slightly fuller collection would have made this set far better value for money (rather than what feels more like just a teaser designed to make people want to buy the whole collection of hugely expensive complete series).

A Kid's Review
Format:DVD
Well, to be honest, the title of this review speaks for itself. Essential episodes are ones like Trials and Tribbleations and Endgame and Year of Hell. The best episode? Well, it's a choice between Year of Hell and Trials and Tribbleations. Trials and Tribbleations is brilliantly done, both in graphics and story line but Year of Hell is a very personal episode for the crew as it shows all of their weaknesses, their strengths and their relationships. I think it's better if you see the episodes and judge for yourself: Do I need all the episodes on this disc? Simple question, complex answer.

A mixed bag 29 April 2009
Format:DVD
Unlike the Borg Collective collection, which is excellent, this is a quite a strange mixture of episodes, but does include Harlan Ellison's 'City on the Edge on Forever', 'Yesterday's Enterprise', 'Little Green Men', Trials and Tribble-lations' and 'The Year of Hell'. Certainly good to re-visit these episodes, so well worth obtaining if you cannot afford purchasing the box sets.
